Ok, so after 7 days of Clear Liquids, I am now on a full liquid diet for two more weeks. Had some Protein Shakes and a cream Soup today for the first time and they may have been the best thing I ever tasted, and I think the Protein did me good since I really haven't had much to speak of for a week! BUT, I am now able to drink twice as much soup as I could before, and I drank my entire protein shakes then looked around for more. I am hungry and now that i'm on the protein, i'm worried the weight loss might stop..also, I'm worried that when I get to solid foods, I will be able to eat everything and won't lose weight. It feels like I could eat an entire dump truck right now. Can you guys tell me what it's like to feel full when you first start on solids?

Usually, in my experience, when you start solids, you will be able to eat your Protein, and then some veggies. I think that the best thing I did at that stage was to use a small dessert or salad plate and salad fork. I made sure that my meal fit on that plate and ate no more than would fit on that plate. Until you have a fill YOU will have to make sure that you don't overeat. Good luck. Karen

Yeah it's all going to be self control and willpower for you in the beginning, and maybe even past that. I hope your stay in bandster hell is short and easy!

Well, I definitely wouldn't call it "hell" at all! LOL! I am feeling great and even better now that I can have Protein. Just gotta find some low calorie Protein shakes and watch the cream Soups, I guess. Can't wait to eat solid food. I was hoping I would be one of those who lost a hundred pounds without ever having a fill. I can still hope but...probably not, eh?

No offense; but the amount of fills one has should not be an issue. It would be like comparing Chemo Doses between those with cancer.

I would not like to see someone feeling guilty because they have more in their band than the next person. Or worse yet, declining to get a needed fill because it makes them feel

"Less Normal".

A few months back there was a thread where people were bragging about how little it took to reach the green zone.

We are all "Morbidly Obese" and need whatever it takes. That's why the band is adjustable.

Ok, sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Iam now between my surgery and my first fill. Just this past weekend, I started solid foods again and suddenly started feeling hungry after eating. I am watching Portion Control very carefully because that was my issue that got me here. I know how to eat healthy, I just eat too much good food.

Anyhow, I try to wait a 1/2 hour after I finish eating and then I mix a cold bottle of Water with crystal light and sip it. This would be the time in the past where I would have a sweet or fruit. It seems to work for me and as an added bonus, I am getting in most of my Water. Last night in front of the TV, I drank two bottles of water - and did not touch the left over halloween candy or the hubby's ice cream. Of course, I had to make several trips to the bathroom later on...

I was not judging anyone for getting fills or not getting fills.. For me, I would prefer not to have a needle stuck in me and then to have food be even harder to get down. I was simply saying that I would have loved for the band, unfilled, to be enough for me to lose the weight. I realize that the port is there for a reason and that's what the band is for...to be able to adjust it.. still, you gotta admit that losing a bunch without getting a fill would be nice.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
