Fill under floro...so cool.

Recommended Posts

Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed I would be standing in front of a xray machine with a needle sticking out of my stomach saying " Wow how cool is this".

Dr. Tim who does my fills got a real kick out of that. Never having done floro I was fascinated.

Being self pay I had been putting off doing this but he sure was able to give me good restriction right away without being to tight.

I had hit a plateau and wanted to getting things going again before the Holidays.

I just had an appointment with my surgeon and although we decided I didn't need a fill, I did watch

a shot of barium go through my stoma and into my stomach, neat to watch.

I have never had a fill under floro, but I thought it was cool when I did my barium swallow the day after surgery. I could really see the band slowing down the flow of the contrast...I was pretty impressed (it could have just been the anesthesia scrambling my brains though!).

I barely remember the one in the hospital. All I remember is being in pain and they made me get up and walk to the room where that was done and I still felt so out of it. I didn't get to see anything....just wanted to get back in bed. Wish I could get one though. I hear everyone say how cool they are

I have had 4 or 5 fills in the last 3 years and I had my first fluoro yesterday with a new Dr. It was awesome! I was really happy to finally see my band and be reassured that everything looked normal and was working. The only issue I had was I was expecting to have around 7.5cc of saline in my band, and when the RN pulled out all the saline, there was only 6cc. I'm not sure what happened to the 1.5cc that I'm 100% positive was in there. I'm happy there is only 6cc but now I'm just confused!!

My surgeon likes to use the floro, too! He, also, put the needle in and had me drink barium to watch it go through. He reduced me from 4 cc to 3 1/2 after he saw the slow drip at 4. I just had revision surgery and had an empty port, so I had no restriction. It will be nice to have restriction when I eat. I told him that I knew I had no restriction, as couldn't eat salad for 2 years, and all of a sudden I could eat lettuce without a problem! Gained a little weight while I was empty, too! Karen

Update: it has been 31/2 days since the fill with floro and have dropped 4lbs. I couldn't get that darn scale to move for the last 8 weeks no matter what I did. I will say that I have to eat really slow now, so slow I finally give up as I lose interest. Who knew chewing was such great exercise. I have gone back to my Protein Shakes once a day to make sure I am getting enough Protein.< /p>

I know what you mean about chewing. Do we get exercise credit for that?! :) I sometimes find that I lose interest because my food gets cold too! But since the lbs are coming off, it's all good!

Been gone for awhile anyone living back East knows how crazy it has been with the snowstorm. Anyway my one daughter her husband and 4 kids moved in for a week till there electric came back on. Was nice and was still able to watch my food. Had this been presurgery everyday would have been a party and I would have gained a good 5 lbs at least in the time they were here. Had my first fill today. It was so easy and interesting. I didn't feel anything and loved watching how it works. I only got 1cc and of course I'm on liquids so not sure how it will work as far as the tightness. Glad to be back hope all is well and doing great !

I had my first fill today too under fluro. Very weird

Keeping my fingers crossed that this jump starts weight loss again, cause it had really slowed down and I am disappointed.

liquid diet today for me too. Thank the Lord its only for one day.

Good luck

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
