Had my surgery this morning so now I'm a Bandster too. I was up at 3AM for my pre-surgery shower with the special soap they gave me. Got dressed, checked my bag for needed documents and post-op items then my wife and I were on the way to the hospital at 3:45. We arrived in plenty of time for my 4:30 check-in. The process went smoothly and by 5:15 I was taken back to be prepared for surgery. The nursing staff were professional and friendly, that made me feel very comfortable.

I had my IV started, blood thinner give, and a shot of antigas medicine in my tummy. My doctor, and some of the surgical team came guy to check on me and to ask questions. Finally the anesthesia tech came in with my "cocktail". I started feeling warm all over and that is the last I remember. I woke to a nurse saying are you awake, do you have any pain? I was very sleepy but happy to have no pain. As I was in recovery the nurse did give me some pain medicine a short time before I was too leave. I did some breathing with the Airlife device they gave to. I have to use it often each day while I'm healing. I then was taken to do my barium swallow and then they had me drink some Water 30 minutes afterwards. They had me walk around a bit and I was free to go home.

I got home, walked a bit, napped a bit, and sipped my Liquid Protein drink. I don't feel pain so took just 1/2 a dose of my medicine to keep me pain free. I did feel a little something in my left shoulder but a Gas-X strip took care of that. So now just resting, walking, breathing treatment, sip liquid, repeat.

My incisions look tiny compared to others I've seen on this site and others. I am very very pleased with Dr. Kim and the staff at Forest Park Medicial Center. The facility is first rate and I felt treated with professional care and compassion.

I'm glad my journey has started with such a positive step. Best wishes to the other Oct 25th Bandsters, have an easy and quick recovery.

Good for you, we're always glad to hear a Lap band installation go so well.

I had a very similar experience. I had my six week appointment today and we

decided I was losing enough so no fill! I hope you do just as well, or better.

Welcome to the other side. I hope your recovery is quick and painless. I too took 1/2 doses of the pain meds for about 2 days and then stopped. The 1/2 doses allowed me to take the edge off and sleep, but didn't totally drug me.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
