I didnt really experience any restrictions till my 3rd fill, but restrictions are more dependent on how much fill you get rather than the number of fills. I had to lose some weight before i was banded in january 2011 so was used to eating much smaller portions anyways so the band restriction didn't really affect my weight loss, just made it easier for me to eat less :)

lost 12st 8lbs since October 2010. Banded Jan 2011.

I was banded in Jan 2011 and maybe have thrown up 15 times since then at most, i am reliant on my memory, as what makes me sick doesnt get eaten again unless i can see another cause like i was very hungry and just ate too fast or didnt chew my food enough. My best friend is a sharp knife i cut up all my food really small, i do not eat bread or bread products at all, and tend to avoid things like cold chicken as that is a big no no for me. What i do eat a lot of is Soup, homemade vegetable Soup or Tomato Soup from weight watchers. If you do throw up then give your band /stomach time to recover, going onto liquids/soft food for the rest of the day is good advice. Eventually you get to know your band and what u can and cant do with it, i had to change my whole approach to food and what i was able to eat where other people just ate smaller portions of 'normal' food. Food can get stuck more often after a band fill so be cautious after a fill for a few days and hopefully things will improve.

Be pateint we all lose weight at different rates just keep at it and eventually u will be ok. Just make sure u are burning more calories than you are eating

I have lost over 170lbs so far by monitoring closely everything i eat, the band is a tool for weight loss and not the whole answer and i really hope things improve for you .

I can't say as I have ever heard this. I have had 3 fills (tomorrow I am getting #4) and I've lost 66 pounds since being banded 3 months ago (july 26, 2011). I don't think anyone can say at what point (or which fill) you will lose weight. We all get filled different amounts. I'm at 4 cc's and my friend who got her surgery from the same doctor but a week later is at 5.9 cc's and I've lost alot more weight than her. That could be for several reasons, my diet is different from hers. I stick with fish, chicken and seafood and stay away from red meats and eat mostly veggies with everything and some fruit. She eats what she wants but in smaller quantities. I excersise and she doesn't.

Being banded still means you have to work at weight loss. It's just there to help you along the way. You make of it what you put into it. Good luck to you.

I think it is different for each person. I lost most of my weight with little or no fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
