Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 9/20 and am doing pretty well.....until today that is....I've been getting a sharp pain in my port area and today while I was at work I felt a burning sensation at my incision, I work at a desk so I promptly lift my blouse to see what was going on. To my surprise the area is swollen, red and irritated....yes, I panicked!!!! I called my doctor and have an endoscopy scheduled for Friday morning to see if the band may have slipped. Now, I must explain how GOOD ive been at following instructions and have been very proud of myself, Ive lost about 33 pounds and now I have to deal with this....Im really nervous about this, and now as Im home Im getting this burning feeling from my stomach area up my throat and I have no clue what thats about....has this happened to anyone??????

Sounds like the area by the port may have an infection. I don't think that happens with a slip. You are really doing great with the weight loss and I'm sure the endoscope will tell the tale of whats going on. I think if you had a slip you would also be having difficulty eating. Good luck.

I don't see why they would want to do an endoscopy if your port area is red and inflamed it's more than likely an infection and there would be no need for an endoscopy. I guess unless they're worried about a deeper infection, but without the doc even seeing you there would be no reason to think that.

Ya that doesn't make sense to me. Just sounds like a port infection. Ive been dealing with one for the past 8 weeks. I'm on my fourth round of antibiotics and I've had a second surgery because of it. But it really isn't a big deal. You just deal with what comes. Doesn't sound like a band slip to me though. If your band slipped you'd probably be throwing up and stuff. I get heart burn almost every day since surgery.

Update: Had my procedure today and all went A-OK....the band is in place and it seems that the rash/swelling around my incision is just some type of reaction so Im going to put some type of neosporin or something!:thanks:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
