I do not regret having the band put in, BUT sometimes I miss food. A well cooked filet migon, a big mac, mac and cheese. Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich, with an iced cold glass of milk, chicken tenders, shrimp. I can still eat some of these, but I do not seem to enjoy them as much, or can finish them. I have found some new foods like, Ahi tuna, hummus, chickpeas, scallops. Just needed to share. On the up side I am under 200 for the first time in a coon's age. :D

First off congrats on being in Onederland! I think we all go through the "I miss food" stage but once we start seeing results it lessens the want. I can only really speak for myself but I know for me losing the weight and all of my new non-scale victories make it all worth while. If you want you can check out the site that I now write for. It's called Truth In Change (link is in my signature) You can learn a lot and I'm sure relate to many of the things posted there. Hopefully it will give you some more inspiration. Best of luck to you and keep up the good work!

I sooo know what you mean! Thank you for sharing!

I also do not regret the surgery, and I am thrilled to be losing weight. However, there was a certain comfort that came from food, and I believe it will take a while to learn new ways to comfort myself. The whole process has been so educational. I did not understand before how much of my eating was driven by emotions, but I know now because I have new awareness that the minute things get stressful and overwhelming I think of food. The difference is that now I don't eat it, I just cope. I'm thankful to now have the help the band gives so I can resist giving in to emotional eating,

Once in a while a friend who is considering the surgery asks if I'd do anything different and only half joking I tell them I'd have eaten more before, while I had the chance! Please don't flame me. Just being honest with my feelings.

I DID eat more before I had the surgery...I gained 20 lbs from eating crap for 2 months and I don't regret it one bit. It was a lot of fun. ;)

However, I do not recommend this for everyone because depending on your BMI and your surgeon, some doctors won't do the surgery if you've gained weight.

i am right there with you. i miss food too. LOL! there are times if i am eating something really yummy, i find myself wishing i could eat more of it. :)

but then i sit back and say "that is how i got to where i was in the first place."

i will tell you on my pre-op diet. one night i pigged out at a neighborhood cookout, cause i wanted to eat like there was no tomorrow and i was freaking hungry. but the next day, i got back on my diet and don't regret it one bit. i do miss thick crust pizza, fried foods, but know that they are not good for me banded or not.

Yep, we all have that feeling - we were all overeaters before-hand and a lot of us find comfort from food. Funny enough, yesterday we had veggie Soup and my husband sliced some French bread thin and baked it with some Provolone on top. I took one small bite of the bread and realized nope - that's not going to sit well. I looked at him and said, "You have no idea how much I want to cram that piece of bread in my mouth and enjoy every calorie of it." It just isn't gonna happen. I know the old adage of "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels", but that's hard to reconcile in my mind - it's apples and oranges to me. However... I find the more time that comes between myself and a specific food, the less I crave it. Example: we had a bag of bugles in the house a few months ago. I had a few and my God they were good. I ended up eating more and buying more and eating more. The more I gave in, the more I wanted it. I'm the same with ice cream or McDonalds. I finally have to stop cold turkey because I can't wean - if I eat a little, I want more. Once you get over the hump of cravings, it's not as bad on the flip side. It's something we'll all likely struggle with for most of our lives. It's why we don't do so well when left to our own willpower. Don't beat yourself up over it - Celebrate each victory but don't mourn your losses too badly.

I think we can all relate to this post! To this day there are so many foods I miss. I havent had McDonald's in over a year! Sometimes I look at it and think... "oh what I would do for a Big Mac", but the difference now, from pre-op, I think about what that Big Mac would do and how it would make me feel, so I don't do it. But I can't lie and say that I dont have my fantasies! :D

A few weeks ago I gave into the big mac temptation! I took it off the bread & ate some, made me so sick I threw up... Kinda ruined big macs for me, I'm not complaining though it kinda gives me relief!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
