OMG. I was having a bad night yesterday. I over ate and made bad choices. I was banded on Aug. 1, 2011. Up to this point, I had done really good. It seems I have been eating a little more than I feel I should, but I just assumed I need more restriction ( I have only had 1 fill of 3cc). Well, it was over the top last night, and the restriction was there! About a half hour after I finished eating, I started to get a HORRIFIC pain and severe discomfort in my stomach. I never did throw up, thank God, but I was absolutely MISSERABLE for 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Needless to say, I got about an hour of sleep. I was up and I was down. I couldn't get comfortable no matter how I sat or stood and laying down was out of the question. Boy, was this a wake up call!!!! I have learned my lesson the hard way. Has anyone else experienced this? :(

I haven’t been banded yet; I’ve just read and researched the band way too much. As I’m sure you did when you first thought about getting the band. So I want to remind you to be kind to your band and your stomach. From all that I’ve read, it’s not a good idea to use the band as a stopping point. It is very important that you plan out your meals, measure and eat no more than 4 oz. at a time. You risk band slippage or having problems with you esophagus. I would take it easy today and maybe sip on some Protein shakes for a meal or two. I hope to be banded soon, so WHEN I make the same mistake, please remind me of these band basics. You have done so well, I would love to be down almost 60 pounds in the first 3 months. That’s Awesome! Keep your eye on the prize!

I definitely have been there! I tend to be one of those hard-headed types that pushes things to the limit, but its all a learning experience. I know when to stop now, its not worth feeling miserable. Our whole lifestyle is changing, its a journey and you learn along the way. I thought it was going to be so difficult, but, at least for me, it really wasnt, but it took a few tough lessons along the way. Good luck to you!! Im sure you will do great. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
