First fill/starting to exercise?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I have two questions.

1. How long after surgery till your first fill?

2. How long after surgery were you allowed to exercise?

Thanks!

Had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery. Not sure about excersise, I would guess about 2 weeks. Took me a while to hit the gym so I never even asked.

6 weeks until the fill, and I walked until I seen my surgeon, and asked about exercise. He told me 6 weeks out ! your fine to go and work out, but take it easy, no need for a Hernia...

Not sure about the fill, I didn't get one til 5 months. For exercise, at my post op at 9 days, I was given the ok for cardio, but to wait 3 more weeks for weights.

I was told 4 weeks for exercise... But to start walking the day after surgery and go farther and longer everyday. I'm almost 2 months out with no fill. Everyone is different. Id say most people get one around 6 weeks though. I just have restriction and am losing about 3 lbs a week so my doctor said no fill for me :-)

My first fill was about 4 weeks out. I went back to the gym using the tread mill starting slowly (30 minutes) at day 4. My doctor said I could resume lap swimming (which I was doing 7 days a week) after 2 weeks.

4 weeks after surgery for first fill. Was told I can go back to the gym at my 1 week post-op follow up appointment. (but don't overdo it with the weights)

Whirlpool and sauna was OK after 1 week also.

I had my first fill at 4 weeks. I started walking for exercise the same day as surgery (doc's orders). The surgeon had me wait 4 weeks to get back to crunches and jogging though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
