I am on day 8 of my pre-op diet and doing well. I go to see my primary on Thursday to talk about my medications and Vitamin supplements and to start scheduling my every-six-month labs. I do not own a scale so I will weigh in when I see my primary. I have pre-op on Friday and surgery on Monday! I am really excited! I have given up soda and caffeine for the time being. I do want to have coffee again eventually since I do enjoy the taste of it. I think for a while I will really miss the soda since it was such a hugh part of my life.

how hard/restrictive is the diet??

This meal plan consists of consuming 4 Protein drinks and 1 meal at regularly spaced intervals throughout the day. For example:

7:30 am - Protein Bar or shake

10:30 am - Protein Bar or shake

1:30 pm - Protein bar or shake

4:30 pm - protein bar or shake

7:30 pm - meal/TV-dinner (Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, etc)

Note: if you still have calories available and are still hungry you can add lean meat to your dinner; such as boneless, skinless chicken

Women 5'4" and below: 1100 calories and at least 60 grams of protein daily

Women above 5'4": 1200 calories and at least 65 grams of protein daily

Men 5'9" and below: 1300 calories and at least 70 grams of protein daily

Men above 5'9": 1400 calories and at least 75 grams of protein daily

Do NOT consume more than your calorie limit and get at least your protein minimum every day for two weeks.

I have been using the EAS Protein Bars and shakes - specifically the carb control bars and shakes. You can get these at Walmart. The first few days can be bad due to headaches but after that no so bad at all. I usually have a protein bar for Breakfast, Protein Shakes at 10:30, 1:30, and 4:30 and then a Healthy Choice meal for dinner. Tonight I added chicken to my dinner and still had about 70 calories left over.

I was banded on 10/19 and still on Clear liquids. I go to my surgeon's office tomorrow for my follow-up visit; I am hoping they put me on full liquids! I am so sick of broth and popsicles! I don't own a scale so I will see what my weight is tomorrow. I started my band journey in July 2010 weighing 300 lbs. When they put my paperwork in to my insurance company I was at 262. My weigh in before my surgery was 251 and I weigh in tomorrow to see what I have lost since then. I didn't really have any gas pain just pressure. Most of my pain has come from my belly and the incisions pulling when I get up and sit down and adjusting myself. Also, I went back to work today so I sat in a work chair instead of my recliner so my belly is a little more sore than it has been. I have lost a pant size and a few shirt sizes as well and am so happy! I have some of my favorite jeans just waiting in my closet for me to get into!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
