Dr. Oz Show - Sept. 12/11 - Interesting topic

Recommended Posts

On the Dr. Oz show yesterday (Sept. 12th) he talked about belly fat. He made an interesting point that we focus too much on the number on the scale and need to worry more about our waist size.

Dr. Oz has written many articles about the ideal waist size. For women it's 32.5 inches and for men it's 35 inches.

Everyone in the audience was given a piece of ribbon exactly 32.5" in length... the ribbon was blank on both sides... no men in the audience that day.

Dr. Oz encouraged the audience to use this ribbon as a guide when staring a weight loss program. Once a week or once a month take the ribbon and see how the gap has gotten smaller when placed around your waist.

The show was talking about 5 steps To Conquering Your 40+ Belly.

He had an interesting meal plan which included a Breakfast suggestion.

If anyone would like the recipe for Noodle pudding and an article he wrote a few years ago about the "Ideal Waist Size" you can find it on his website or contact me and I can send you both files in .pdf format - tomander@rogers.com

While I was losing I found it very helpful to take my measures to see my progress.

I don't own scales so my family doctor would weigh me every month and measure my chest, hips and waist.

I'm going to try the recipe on Sunday... I'll let you know what it's like.

Wow, thank you. I tape him daily but don't get to watch the show daily (my 3 year old consumes the television in the evening watching NickJr. and even if he's not watching he has to have it on as background.). ANyhow, let us know how the recipe is. I'm going to look this show up on-line now. Thank you!

Your welcome Staci... I'm so glad my family doctor suggested he take my measurements every month... this kept me motivated and I found maintenance to be fairly easy... I don't find myself getting as stressed like I did when I lost weight in the past and weighed myself everyday.

I focus a lot on the scale but I also focus a lot on the gym so hopefully that balances things out for me. Before I had kids I had a lovely flat stomach even though I was overweight but after 3 kids, my tummy has been way too big. It's coming down a lot and the gym is helping to tone...I'll be interested to see if it ever gets the way it was. I've heard that before about the belly fat being a predictor of health and risk for bad things and I'd love to get rid of mine!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
