When did your bandages/tape come off?

Recommended Posts

I am on day 10 post-op. My incisions are still covered. They are starting to peel a bit and look funky and I am worried about infection. When did you remove your tape from your incision? Thanks for your help.

I took mine off after 2 weeks. That is what the hospital told me to do!

My surgeon allowed to take my off after one week. I healed pretty nicely though. No complications with my incision

Hi! I waited a little over 2 weeks since they were still stuck pretty good. My doctor's office said that was sufficient based on my healing. They also had a great suggestion~ Take them off in the shower so the adhesive is easier to peal off with less pain! I hope all goes well for you!

Im a nurse. Do not peel the tape back...let it fall off naturally.... If it is tender, red, swollen, hot to touch worry about infection. You would also have a temperature. good luck....im 3 days post op .....they used dermabond on me

After 6 days I couldn't wait any longer...sure enough they looked better under the tape then the dried bloody tape looked.

Your tape should be off at 7 days. Beyond that it could attract too much crap and cause infection. Go to your Dr's office and ask a nurse to remove it if it isn't coming off.

I'm 3 days post and the strips are starting to peel back. I go in on tuesday to get the staples out. The surgeon's office told me that the strips would peel on their own and i could trim them back if i wanted. I'm doing so gingerly as to not pull on the wounds.

The Doc told me I could pull the gauze off when i got home on post op day 1 as long as i kept the wounds dry.

Thank you all for replying! So I ended up just taking off the larger piece of tape that was covering each incision. Underneath that it looks like a suture is holding the incision closed so I left that part on. I got all queezy looking at it so I had to put my shirt back on!!! hahaha Some of the incisions look fine. 2 of them like they were bigger and more significant incisions that the others. Thanks again everyone for your info!

I also got queezy. I think that was the worst part of the whole surgery!

Had minor set back last night. My largest incision started draining somewhat. No blood, just drainage.

Put on a gauze bandage overnight, everything seems to be ok now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
