Hello to the new member, I know what you need to know before you have lap band surgery, maybe you already know. Are you from here, in San Antonio Tx? If so You need to go see Dr. Gerald Carcamo. He was my surgeon. I had the lap band 3 years ago. But i am struggling. I have been staying between 200 and 215lbs. I weighed at 255 when i started. The hospital is name NIX. I know a few things you have to have in order to have surgery, 1. is you have to be 100lbs overweight. 2. borderline to diabetes i think, I am sorry i do not remember the rest. See i was borderline to that. I am 51 now. I was on other diets for years, The only thing i regret having it is when you eat you can not eat normal bites, and it is hard to remember to eat slow, hope idid not scare you. My email address is Number_1_catlover@hotmail.com if you would like to talk, A. Harpe

So many of the "other" people out there do not know what it is like to be over weight. I have not had my surgery yet and am in my 2nd month of waiting to find out if I get to have it.

I now weight 303, start out at 335, I have my phys, exam in 2 days and will see the dietian for the 4th time the same day.

My primary doc. is all for the surgery.

If I were you I would find another doctor, that one doesnt seem to really care. If you dont have many health problems now you will in a few years and it is better to prevent then try and cure.

Good luck and let me know how things go!

At the seminar I just went to, the doctor said that the guidelines for bariatric surgery had changed and it was now a BMI of 35 vs. 40. It changed as of December 2010. I would look into this.

I think this is the surgeons guidelines, but not the insurance guidelines.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
