Struggling with food choices

Recommended Posts

Had banding surgery in April - have lost 35 lbs so far but am now struggling with food choices. Last month when I went to my doctor's office I had GAINED 3 lbs. I am falling back into my old eating habits - which I cannot allow myself to do if this surgery is to be successful for me. Anybody have any suggestions? Does anyone still use Protein Powder as a supplement to help diminish food cravings?

HELP!

How's your restriction? Maybe a fill is in order. I still drink Protein Shakes but not as much as I used to. Maybe about 3 or 4 a week. In the beginning it was 2 a day.

sounds like you need a fill. if you are eating more like you used to, you have no restriction and need to be filled. try writing down what you are eating to make yourself accountable. sometimes seeing on paper what you are eating makes you realize you are making bad choices. hope this helps.

I found a awesome website to use to count calories and your exercise. The name of it is FITDay.com, its great at tracking calories and its FREE!! It also sounds like it might be time for a fill also. Good Luck

Hi Pam,

I've been reading anything I could get my hands on regarding lapband for over 2 years now. I found this website right before I was banded on 7/26/2011. After 33 pounds lost and 4 weeks of being banded I noticed I was feeling hungry for the first time and was even able to get more food down. This worried me and I found a post here that gave me another understanding of the band. I hope this helps you. http://www.lapbandta...ls-and-refills/

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
