Excessive vomiting is the main culprit. If you get stuck do not force yourself to throw up. Try to wait it out no matter how painful it is.

Excessive vomiting, excessive overeating and carbonated beverages.

I assume from this that you have never actually been stuck. Generally the pain from being stuck and the inability to to swallow even your own saliva means that to try and dislodge the offending item is the preferred way to go.

What generally causes a band to slip is excessive overeating, having the band too tight, getting it filled too quickly and excessive vomiting. When food is stuck and you bring it up it is regurgitation rather than vomiting. Doing this occasionally although you should try to avoid it is not a major problem. If you do it a lot then it is a problem. Vomiting such as the kind you get when you have stomach flu is the type of vomiting that is more likely to make your band slip. In that instance the food is coming from the stomach below the band, usually with force and it is usually repetetive and uncontrollable. If you do get any kind of illness that causes you to vomit like this you should get an anti emetic from your Dr urgently.

As for the carbonation - that is something that has been argued time and time again. Lets say that the jury is still out on that one. There are as many Dr's that say carbonation is fine as there are ones that are against it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
