That is so messed up! Wow! If they don't want to pay for it, why don't they just deny then. I have never heard of an insurance company trying to talk someone out of a surgery. that is not right at all! if they are trying to talk you out of it, then you most likely will be approved! Keep us posted.

Just remember that the people that are trying to talk you out of it are not medical professionals and it's all a money game to them. They actually get bonuses for saving the company money. Don't listen to them, do what is best for you. Good luck:)

I haven't. My insurance is BCBS of Illinois. My paperwork was submitted 8/10/11 and I have yet to hear back which has me really nervous. I'm afraid since it's taking so long that I will be denied. I've already been denied once for not having a long enough doctor supervised diet. They had changed the requirement in the middle of my process and I had to start all over.

I'm patiently waiting to hear something either from my insurance or my surgeon.

I have BCBS PPO and I never heard from them-the office dealt directly with them. That's so odd that they would try to talk you out of it. I never heard of such a thing and I would complain about it-it just doesn't seem ethical to have someone who has no medical degree try to sway you away from a surgery that could imporve the quality of your life.

Well I guess I am lucky I have Aetna and so far its been good news from my surgical provider. I still in my pre op meeting phase that my insurance requires but I am told by the dr. office that I have great coverage with Aetna. Thats good to hear as I thought once before of doing this but my previous employer did not have the same Aetna coverage so was not covered. December 15th is target date for surgery but may have to postpone til first of year due to unexpected use of FSA money for the out of pocket. Either way it will be done and I cant wait.

I find that very odd! I have BCBS and I actually got a Voicemail message saying please call us so we can help you plan your surgery. This was about 2 weeks after my consult and was my first news that I had been approved.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
