So SO MAD!

Recommended Posts

I can't understand why it's so darn expensive for out of pocket people to get a fill. I only need approx. 1cc of slaine and it's going to cost me $250 I am so darn mad. I got an unfill due to pregnancy and I gained feel like crap but in order to get back on the wagon I have to pay yet another $250, I have laready paid $17000.00 for the surgery!! YOU would think that they could make a special price for cash paying people but instead they charge us MORE than they charge or pay the insruances...I am so at a loss now and very frustrated and angry. Sorry!

That's horrible, I would be mad too. Did you know about the pricing when you started at that office?

Is there an independent fill center where you're located? I'm told these "over the counter" companies make it more affordable. (I have no direct knowledge, this is only what i've heard.)

Good luck!

Many insurance companies pay the doctors a discounted rate. Have you asked your doctor if you can pay what the insurance companies pay for the same service? It may be lower than $250.00.

Good luck!

Unfortunately the insurance industry has taken so much control over the medical field that it has caused the price of services and meds to skyrocket. Insurance companies often pay your doctors less than half of what they charge (it's not the doctor's office charging less, it's the insurance companies paying only a portion of the cost), so that ends up costing people who don't have insurance even more. I also have to pay for my fills as of a couple months ago (got married, new insurance that doesn't cover fills) and yes, they are expensive! I now fill/unfill with discretion. If I don't really need it, I don't get it done. Keep in mind also that while the cost may seem high, you're paying for more than just the saline. You're also paying for the needles and any other equipment your doctor might use, as well as for your doctor's time. They also factor in malpractice and a boatload of other costs. Still, it does seem a high cost. But, if you really do need a fill, isn't $250 worth it for your good health?

I understand what your saying about the $250 covering more than just the saline it's just to me a huge price to pay. And yes it's worth it for my health but at the same time my opinion stays it's too expensive!

Rachel yes I did know but it still stings!!!!

I can only suggest you shop around because some docs will cut you a break. The woman at my office ( a patient) knew her friend was paying lots for her fills and ask if he could do them and what would he charge. He said he would charge $50!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
