Weight loss

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 23, 2011. Just had my 3 month check up on Tuesday ( Aug 16 ). I started at 270. Day of banding I was 250. I am currently 226. I got my first fill on Tuesday, 2 cc's. I am now at a total of 4cc's so far. My band is a large and holds 14cc's. Doctor wants me to lose 10 to 12 lbs by Oct 4. I don't feel restricted. Seems I can eat almost anything and it takes a while until I feel full but most days I never feel full. I think I need another fill. Am I trying to rush my weight loss to fast? Anyone else have this problem?

24 pounds since May is about 3 pounds a week. That's certainly not too fast. I think you are right on track. Another 10-12 by October should be a cake walk. The goal is not to feel full. You want to feel SATISFIED! I hate the feeling of full anymore.

I'm not sure...I was banded on July 1 and got my 2nd fill yesterday. I have 8.4 cc in a 14cc band. I had 5.4 in during surgery, and then 2cc, and then 1cc. I was not feeling any restriction until my first fill...and now I am REALLY feeling it.

So...maybe your surgeon wants you to not rely on your band as much but to learn to make healthy decisions. From the time I had the surgery until my first fill, I really didn't lose any weight. :( But now I'm losing.

Good luck! and let us know how it goes.

You're doing great! It's only been 3 months, so you're probably not at full restriction yet. You don't want to have too much put in your band at a time because it can irritate your stomach and cause problems. 2 lbs a week is a good goal, and you're doing much better than that. You'll easily lose more than 10 pounds by October! Keep up the good work! And ditto what Cindy said, there's a big difference between full and satisfied. Eat til you're satisfied and you can't go wrong.

hey brother, I was banded sept 28 2010. I started at 306, currently 225. I also have a 14cc band. I have had as much as 11 cc in my band. I had issues of it being too tight at 11 cc so I had to have it emptied and start over.(early stages of a prolapse). I am currently at 8.5 cc and I feel very little restriction. when you get to a good point make sure you stop with the fills. I didnt and it was a huge setback. I think your at a good pace. take your time. I was in such a hurry and it cost me time and progress. good luck...oh and by the way, you will know when you have restriction. Good restriction is very obvious. If you are wondering.....you dont have it... I figure you may not feel much until you get to 9-10 cc. everybody is different so you never know.

I have 4cc put in and ive only had 1 fill. 3cc during surgery and 1cc at my first visit. I am still feeling very hungry and feel like i can eat a lot. I had surgery July 20 and have got down to 12 pounds lost but had a weekend at the beach and kinda cheated and now im only at 8 pounds lost. Im struggling bad. I need some help, i guess im just not restricted enough.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
