Hi everyone going tomorrow to the Md think I will be starting the Preop. Surgery the 14th. I have MS and fell the other day breaking my ankle and foot. Because of the Hurricane we had, my Mds elevator doesn't work. Not sure how I will get up 2 flights of stairs but I don't want to postpone my appt because then everything will probably be pushed further and I want this over so I can get on my way to a healthier me. Luckily he said the breaks won't postpone the surgery as long as I can make my appt. UGH !

Will keep you in my prayers! I know how it is...you don't want anything or anyone to get in your way of your surgery date! Mine is Sept. 29th, and I just caught a bad cold from the rest of my family. I'm going to have to watch it closely because it usually turns into bronchitis with me. Can't be sick on surgery day!!! I hope you get up those 2 lights of stairs tomorrow. I'd sit on my butt and go up if everything else failed. Ha, ha!! Take care!

My sister-in-law will be taking me because It's my right foot so I can't drive which in itself is killing me. I think I will let her take my walker up to the top then I will try and get up as far as I can with a crutch praying that they at least have railings ! Most likely will end up on my butt like you suggested by the time I get to the second flight. I WILL NOT MISS THIS APPOINTMENT !!! The hard part is going to be coming back down me and gravity don't get along. At least what ever happens on the way out I will have gotten in !! YEAH I hope your cold doesn't turn into anything worse take care and drink hot tea with lemon and honey. Good Luck

I don't blame you one bit. You're going to get up those steps with flying colors! I also know what you mean about coming down the steps. My husband calls me "Grace" because I seem to fall a lot. Just be very careful! And thanks for the tip on the hot tea with lemon and honey. Will do! Let me know how it goes tomorrow. Prayers are going up for you!

I am so sorry to hear about your fall! With determination you will make it to that appt! Maybe by tomorrow the elevator will be back up and running :). This is all such a long process that I hear ya on not wanting anything to put the dates off! I did my pre-op stuff yesterday and I was so scared some lab or test or something would come back bad and I would have to postpone it. Luckily everything is all good so I am good to go! Just stay positive and you will find a way to get up there :0). Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Thank you for your good wishes ! They had a cancellation for the afternoon that I could have taken but my ride could only go in the morning. IT might not be a pretty site but I will get my A-- up those steps no matter what. Congratulations on all your results it's a good feeling to finally be cleared and ready to go. Since he said my broken foot and ankle doesn't matter Im good to go too I think.

Good luck to all getting their band tomorrow and Friday! I'm going on vacation but will keep my thoughts with you.

I have a question for the rest. I got my final clearance from the surgeon today - yeah!! Although I'm excited, I got a little nervous, as he said my liver function tests were slightly elevated, so he's going to do a liver tipsy at the same time. Does anyone know what this could mean? Should I be afraid? Will it cause more pain? I'm only scheduled to be off work for 2 days - Thursday and Friday, back to work on Monday. Should I request addl time? I have some available! I wasn't scared at all, but I am now. Ps - I don't drink more than three or four drinks a year!

I have never heard of a tipsy liver before...... I understard the being nervous though. I got the final clearance and pre-op stuff and when the surgeon said he will see me on the 12th it was sort of surreal. He also said my upper GI showed a hiatal hernia and he is going to fix that while he is in there so that made me a little nervous too that he is doing something else while he is in there, so I understand. It must be something minor if he said he can just fix it while he is in there. Good luck! Dawn

Sorry - smart phone corrected me when it shouldn't have. He's doing a liver biopsy. I did not have a gi, but he did say that he'd fix it if he found one. He said it was pretty common, and thinks there is a good chance he'll find one.

I know how that is. My pcd has said my liver functions were elevated - due to a fatty liver - but I expect that to change with healthier eating habits. So this could just be a result of that.

As for the hernia, my doc says that 90% of the patients he bands have a hernia that needs to be repaired and they don't even know it. So I guess it's quite common.

GOOD LUCK to everyone being banded today! Let us know how you are doing!

Hi fellow September bandsters! I am super excited to do all my pre-op stuff tomorrow and surgery on the 12th, 2 weeks! I am however getting annoyed at so many people that are so negative about the band... I was at the dentist and one of my molars is cracked from grinding my teeth but I told him I can't wear my night guard because of the CPAP mask I have to wear. I didn't know I had 'mild' apnea before all this testing and he was trying to sell me on the zone diet and almost begging me not to do the lap-band. Then he compared it to someone he knew that died from gastric bypass. Um, hello, not exactly the same thing but I can't really argue when my mouth is wide open for my exam, lol. My mother-in-law has been saying it is such a bad decision because, again, her sister had really bad problems after bypass! She is even telling my sis-in-law what a bad mistake I am making. Her opinion doesn't matter to me one way or the other but it is just irratating especially when you haven't done the research and don't really know what you are talking about. Have you guys run into any of those negative nellies?

Negative Nellies abound. When I do tell someone about the surgery i have planned, I usually say that I don't want to hear about their opinions and that I've researched and have looked at the pros and cons. I ended my Facebook note with: "I know some of you will be of the opinion that this isn't necessary; that all I need to do is what a friend of yours has done. Look at the stats. The percentage of people who diet AND loose all the weight AND keep it off is not high. My aging body needs to loose now while I'm still young enough to enjoy the freedom and ease of movement. :-)"

Sometimes you just have to head off the comments by holding firm to the research you've done and your life situation.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
