? for those of you with the realize band

Recommended Posts

So I went for my second fill yesterday, the dr. was putting in .5cc's. When he went to test it, he wasn't able to pull it all out. Should have had 3.5cc's in there total, he could only remove half of it. I think he tried 5 or 6 times. He said he didn't think there was a leak, but seemed confused. So after he left the room (he's not my normal dr) the nurse that usually does the fills came in. I told her what happened and she said that she sees that alot with the realize band. Evidently with the lapband, it's such a high pressure band, that when you test it, the Fluid practically jumps out at you. But with the realize band you really have to work to get it all out. In theory, that makes sense. Still a little concerned though. So before I make myself sick researching band leaks, tell me your experiences. Is your dr ever able to pull out the full amount that you have???

I have the lap band, and my doctor can only pull out half any time I go for a fill.

I've had two fills in my Realize and they never did this at all that I'm aware of. I know one time she got the needle stuck and had to practically rip it out of the port....that was interesting. Didn't hurt but felt strange all that pulling and tugging. I go tomorrow for another fill (hopefully) and I'll pay attention to see if she takes anything out or not.

Bevsuz- guess that kind of blows that theory then, huh lol?

I guess I'll just try to not worry about it and make sure my normal dr sees me next time. I can't imagine having another surgery to fix it, so I'm just going to ignore it.

At first I was really worried about it, now I just try not to worry so much. Everything else seems to be working fine and I have had no other problems. Good luck with yours!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
