Recommended Posts

I believe my doctor did my band w plication as well. I heard him mention it anyway, I'll have to ask next time I see him!

There is a message board about Plication: http://www.sleeveplicationtalk.com/ -- there is a message thread there there that discusses the lap band/plication combo. Might find some good info there.

I wish I had this option.

My losses have been so slow since my surgery in 8/10. I just can't seem to find my groove.

I don't regret my band but I'm now wondering if another surgery would have been better for me giving me more restriction. I feel like I'm just struggling on another long diet.

I am scheduled to have lap band with plication on aug 15th with Duke Raleigh hospital. How was your recovery? Was there alot of swelling and pain? I read a lot of lap band surgery stories on these forums and they all sound pretty good in terms of recovery but there arent many recovery stories with the plication added.

Thanks!

It was a normal recovery from what I gathered. All is good so far.

Scuffy, that is awesome. I thought I heard their nurses/ admin assistants say it hadn't been certified for it yet with plcation. Maybe it was another hospital they were speaking of. That is fantastic. Local is better. Wow, I will have to keep up with you to see how it is going for you. It is great to connect with others that have the same doc/procedure and hospital. Thank you.

Yep, let's keep up with each other as we both progress along this journey! I'm thinking of going to the support group meetings at the Civic Center in MHC; they are held after the WLS seminars every month. I believe Drs. Johnson and Bell also sit in on these meetings too :-)

I had my surgery 6/20 at Duke Raleigh Lap Band with Plication. Very happy with results so far I've lost 35 pounds. I just had my first fill today with fluoro (had 2 cc placed on 6/20 and now 3.5 cc). Surgery recovery itself was ok except I had a wicked head cold on day of surgery and wound up with a postop pneumonia which wasn't fun! Ok as far as the lap band, plication and weight loss! I had it done as an outpatient. Good luck!

Glad you are having good results momofthree.

Scuffy, I actually did sit in on one of the support meetings right after the seminar because a gal I know who has lapband suggested it because I was so full of questions and fears. The people are nice and it was good to hear how different it is for everyone.

My Dr always does plication with his lap band surgeries. I've lost 73 lbs so far and 61 since surgery at the end of March2011. From what I've seen I've had fewer issues than and faster weight loss then those who don't get plication. I've had 2 fills and am in the green zone.

Hi guys had my band + plication done on the 15th and it went good but they had to repair a large hernia too which was larger then they expected. First day after surgery was a bit rough but today I feel pretty good. Doc says if I dont lose the weight though the band will have to come out because he said I will just develop the hernia again. I need to lose about 85 to 90 pounds.

I had band with plication done on the 26th of July. I have not had my first fill yet so I am only experienceing the benefit of the plication at this point. I am able to eat approx 30% of what I used to eat... which is expected because it reduces your stomach size by approx. 70%. I am over 400 lbs so my stomach size was very large to begin with so even the 30% is not a tiny ammount of food. I have my first fill on the 30th of August so I am really hoping I will experience more restriction at that point. I had my surgery outpatient and was eating foods with no problems 2.5 weeks post surgery.

I am glad to read of even more stories of band with plication. I finally have my consult scheduled for mid Sept. Nervous and anxious.

Is the lab band and the plication done through a small incision?

Is the lab band and the plication done through a small incision?

The procedure is done laproscopically (sp?); I have five small incisions, the largest being where the port for the lapband was placed. Incisions are still a little sore, especially the largest one; surgery was 3 weeks ago.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
