Lap band doctor's refusing..

Recommended Posts

I just heard that some doctor's are refusing to give women with PCOS lap band?!?!?!? This is so wrong!!! She told me it's due to a hormonal issue but that is NOT true it's about restriction rather you eat sweets or food!!! I am so mad about this! Have any of you heard of this?!?!?!?!?

Never heard of it. In fact, the doctors in my surgeon's practice specifically say how helpful it is to PCOS patients like myself.

I have PCOS and that was one of the main reasons that I got the Lapband. I never heard of a Doctor denying because of that. It was one of the co morbitities that they listed durring the seminar I had to take before I could get the lapband done.

I have PCOS and yes my weight loss is a little slower compared to those without it but I am still losing so that's the point! I still crave carbs like crazy but now that I have lost the weight my cycle is regular as in comes every month but it only lasts 2 to 4 days and is still very light. I know WAYYY to much Info! LOL! I use to go over a year without having one so I am so glad I got this done.

Wow, never heard of that before. In fact, both my doctor and gyno encouraged me to get the lap band because it would help with PCOS. My lap band doctor told me many women with PCOS have a lot of success with the lap band. My gyno suggested lap band over gastric bypass since I was on the pill for my PCOS, and gastric bypass removes the part of the stomach in which the pill is absorbed. I was told by several doctors that lap band is the better choice for PCOS patients. The band has no affect on the pill. I had (yes, HAD) PCOS when I got banded and have lost almost 160 pounds! I was taken off Metformin (a diabetic drug I was put on because of the insulin resistance portion of PCOS) just 4 months after lap band surgery and am no longer at risk of diabetes. My gyno did a round of PCOS testing at my annual appt in January, and after 1 1/2 years of banded life I became PCOS FREE!!! I literally cried for hours (happy tears of course!). Life after PCOS is so much better! No medications, regular periods that only last a few days like they're supposed to, and much much lighter periods. It is truly wonderful! You should not have any problems getting a lap band with PCOS, especially since it is a co-morbidity.

Noturningback- Your right we do lose it very slow and the cravings for sweets are killing me! I jsut had a baby 9 months ago and well Ijsut went back on metformin and I hate to think that is the reason I crave sweets! So as I recall as you mentioned I jsut need to lose this weight with anohter fill (scheduled next week) and maybe I can get my cycles back to normal and not depend so much on the metformin I have to blame it on the met reason I am eating so many sweets when I was not on it I didn't I know totally odd isnt' it? We shall see! thanks!

I've never heard of that at all! In fact, my PCOS was one of the main reasons the lap band was suggested to me. My doctor said it's one of the best weightloss tools for women with PCOS because normally weightloss is so slow for them. I am sorry for your experience, I would try a different doctor if possible!

I had 4 doctors (2 GPs, one ob/gyn and my lapband surgeon) all specifically say that I should get the lapband BECAUSE I have PCOS. Bizarre!

I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago and just had my surgery 10 days ago. I put all of my medical issues on the table when I went to my first DR appt and he actually said this was the perfect surgery to have because I had the chance of being infertile because of the PCOS....sounds like your DR is a quack! Good luck ;)

728newlife, that's pretty much what my ob/gyn and my lapband surgeon said - that getting the lapband and losing the weight would preserve my fertility that the PCOS was threatening to take away.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
