Dr. Richard Carter - Arlington TX

Recommended Posts

Hey: Anyone out there with recommendations on Dr.Carter who is in Arlington TX?

i went to dr. carter for my lapband but didn't get approved so then i went to Mexico to get it done, he stated that he would see me when i got back and do my fills for me. When i got back from mexico he decided not to see me for liability reasons. Finally went to Dr. Maese he works with the best band surgeons.

Leanna

Hi! I used Dr. Carter as well as about 8 other people in my office. He's great and very supportive. You really get the feeling he cares and is interested in how you feel.

I highly recommend him. Thanks! Laura

I went to Dr. Carter for my band, they wouldn't approve it, I told him I was going to Mexico and asked when I came back would he do my fills and a check up to make sure everything was healing. He said fine. When I got back and made an appointment, Becky told me that he won't see me and changed his mind about it. Needless to say, I was a wreck for a few days trying to find a Doctor who would see me and do my fills. I found Dr. Maese he is great and Dr. Benevides re did my band after the other one slipped. FYI

Thanks Laura: I am currently working to get my insurance to approve the surgery. I started this process back in November 2005 and hopefully by the end of June I will be aproved. I live in Arlington and Dr. Carter is right here not but a few minutes from my home, so I was excited to hear that you all have had such good results. Thank you for the reply!

Hey guys!

My rep referred me to Dr. Carter today. She asked me to do whatever research I needed to do and then let her know tomorrow. She said if I'm ok with using him that I could have my surgery on the 14th...which is in two weeks!

Please let me know anything and everything about Dr. Carter!

this will be a long story. i paid cash for my surgery. my insurance would not cover me. i went thru tlc edge. i picked dr carter out of their surgeons. i visited with him two days before my surgery. talked to him and his LB consultant and watched a video. i didnt have alot of questions because i had done seminars and research on the internet. i did ask him about pain medication after the surgery. he said dont worry i will give you Rx's after the surgery to get filled. i do not have a very high threshold for pain. surgery goes ok. they give me two morphein shots for pain before i leave the hospital because of the pain. we get home and my husband goes to get the Rx's filled. by 6pm that night i am in severe pain. i would say 12 on a scale of 1-10. my husband called the dr. to talk to him about the pain i was in. he gave me 10mg toradol. we called his service 3 times and he never returned our calls. so by 10pm we called our neighbor and he brought me over a hydrocodone. i mean i couldnt sit, stand or anything the pain was so bad.after the pain pill from the neighbor i finally felt relief from the pain. i slept very little thru the night . we called again the next morning. finally after the second call the nurse from the hopsital cal;led back and said he would NOT give me anything else and that i should just put ice on the pain. i was crying hysterically from the pain and just couldnt believe my ears. i called a family member who had just had surgery and she brought me some of her pain medication. i was finnally able to get up and down, walk, sit and everything. i felt so much better with some pain managemtn. she left me 5 pills. that was all i needed. i dont think that was too much to ask from him. so now i have a post op visit. (3 weeks later) i am glad because i really wanted to talk to him about the whole pain management. at my 3 weeks post op i dont even see him i see his LB coordinator. she doesnt look at my incisions or anything. just weighs me. then she tells me i should have lost more weight than 4 lbs. she said i should have lost at least 8-12. this may not seem like a big deal story to you but to me it was. i did find out the reason he wouldnt give me any other pain meds was because he is afraid it will make his patients sick becasue we are on liquid diets. i know everyone is different on their pain level. he was also recently fined by the state board you can read that info from the fort worth paper feb 10 issue. i'm not saying he is a bad surgeon because i dont know for sure. but i am not going back to him. i will be going elsewhere for my fills. i also have one incision that the suture is sticking out and his LB coordinator told me to snip it off with scissors. needless to say i tried that and it didnt go well. the suture is still poking me and i am afraid to call them back cause i dont know what they will say. i'm hoping it will just dissolve

I was looking into Dr. Carter of Arlington, TX to continue my fills. My current doc, Dr. Harrison, has not been good for me. Too many mistakes made. Have you found a good fill doc yet? Any suggestions?

I went to Doctor Carter’s and had a very bad experience. I went through all the insurance process of six months supervise diet, psychologist, stress test etc… I didn’t have the chance to meet him so I can’t talk about his qualities, but I can honestly say his office staffs are a real mess. First a few days before I finished my supervised diet I called Becky (Miss Mistakes) to let her know and to see if she needed anything else from me and the most important I informed her that my employer was changing insurance for the next year and she told me not to worry that the turn around with my actual insurance (Cigna) was really quick (like 2 weeks), she told me that she will call me back as soon as she heard from the insurance company. Here I was waiting, waiting, waiting and waiting…..well I didn’t get a call from her and December came around. I called her back and to my surprised she just placed my record in a pile and was not being handled, needless to say I lost the opportunity to get approved through Cigna. I was really mad about the whole situation and she was blaming me for not calling her when she told me several times she will be calling me, however why should my record be sitting in a pile after I went through my surgery process. After this lovely mistake she submitted the approval paperwork to my new insurance (Aetna) and I called to check the status every week. When I received the denial letter from my insurance I notice that they were using my maiden name instead of my married name which was an error from the insurance company, but I called Becky right away to let her know about it so that they could appeal the decision. A few weeks later I got a called from the scheduler letting me know that my insurance approved the surgery and we scheduled the surgery. I was contacted from the surgery place and everything was set up. I requested time off at work as well as my husband and bought an airplane ticket for my mother to come and babysit the kids. I had an appointment to go and see Dr. Carter 2 days before surgery and to do the entire pre-op test. Well people guess what…..Miss Becky made the biggest mistake ever, she read my approval papers wrong…..I didn’t get approved the letter was actually a denial letter….Can you believe this? I was in shock so in shock that I didn’t reacted the way I should have (meanly and rudely :(). I told her that I had everything set up that how they could make a mistake like this and she was very careless and rude about it when the mistake was obviously made by her and her staff. I think this is one of the worse mistakes you can make to a patient that is trying to get a loss weight surgery to better their health.:lol::w00t::thumbup:

Horrible, I would not recommend him to an enemy. Staff are idiots and give incorrect information and don't think once you have the surgery you will have a doctor who cares because he won't. All he wants is to bill your insurance company.

I have used Dr. Carter since 2006 for my Lapband, all fills, other surgeries (bowel obstruction, incisional hernias) and now for my band revision to sleeve.... Love him!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
