Had Lap-Band surgery today!

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery today. Will say I felt miserable when I woke up in recovery but feel SOOOOO much better now! I have to give a shout out to my surgeon Brad Watkins, the staff of Cincy Weight Loss Center & all the nurses, anesthesioligists and other staff at university Hospital in West Chester Ohio. They are so caring!! That means ALOT. I had also lost 32 lbs on my preop diet.. I was AMAZED. I hope to use this board more often now & get to know the ppl on here.

Hi Tabby! I had lap band today with Dr. Watkins and at the same surgery center too:) I too have had a wonderful experience at both places. Maybe I will run into you at the office sometime? LOL. Glad to hear that you are doing so well too. I am starting to have some swelling and bruising at the incision sites and I did have one incision bleed earlier but no nausea/vomiting or gas pains. Throat is still a little sore and shoulder is starting to ache. Still haven't had to take any medicine yet. I will probably take a little before bed just so I will be comfortable. Best Wishes!!!

Hi Mason!

You probably had yours before me today then. I think he said I was number 4. I just had to take some pain meds for my shoulders and my back feels stiff around to chest area. Not really any feeling of nausea so far. Right after surgery I was feeling miserable but by the time I made it in the house from the car I was starting to feel better. I didn't have any problem sleeping. One incision site is bleeding some... I haven't been able to eat or for that matter even felt hungry. Getting a real dry mouth so suck on ice chips.. Also got some sugar free popsicles and they help for a dry mouth. Only problem is after I ate half the popsicle I wasnt really wanting anything at all to eat. I think this morning I will get a sugar free pudding because I dont think I can handle Protein shake atm.

I do hope we can meet sometime. Do you plan on coming to the support groups? I wasn't sure if I was going to but I think I could really benefit from it. Well take care and stay in touch!

CONGRATULATIONS! The first week is the hardest, you'll be sore and full of gas. Keep taking short walks to get the gas out and help the healing process. You don't want to overdo it, but you do want to move a little. You're on your way to a whole new life!

Welcome to the loser's bench! :)

Thank you Klariade. And congratulations on your amazing weight loss:)

@ TabbyAnn, as long as my schedule permits it I would like to go to the meetings also. Glad to hear that you are doing so well too. I have been doing the ice chips and popsicles too for the dry mouth. I was really hungry yesterday, LOL, but not so much today. Don't think that I can handle the Protein shakes today either, they just seem so thick and heavy.

My husband took me to Krogers and we bought a bunch of baby food. I figure if I can eat a snack pack I can have the baby food. I hope you continue to do well today. I dont want to but I think I am going to take a nausea pill. After getting out in the heat I feel kinda sick to my tummy. Other then that I am still doing great. I have a post op visit Tuesday at noon. I am hoping I will be fully back to normal by then... Have a great day!

Congratulations. I must say I am amazed that you would be on the computer already. That makes me feel better. They told me I would sleep all day when I have my surgery next Tuesday. I think the sooner you get on the boards and talk about your experience the better. I hope !

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
