Eating like it's going out of style

Recommended Posts

I totally get it ! I don't even have my surgery date but have been eating anything and everything in sight before I have to start the pre-op diet. I'm making a list of restaurants and foods that I need/have to get in before it's too late. When I had my psych evaluation he kind of looked at me when I mentioned having my last meal. Thought I blew it at that point but luckily I didn't. He just doesn't get it like most THIN people.

My surgery will not be until September but I feel like I've been eating things that I normally wouldn't eat because I know they will be limited soon. I know I'm not the only one who is going through this or went through this prior to surgery. I've made a definite attempt lately to knock it off, but I surely caught myself doing it.

I am so glad that someone started this topic. I have wanted to asked the same question but was too ashamed to say anything. I have been eating out of control the past couple of weeks. I will realize what I'm doing and do good for a couple of days, then I lose it again. And last week I got a denial from insurance...............oh boy! Felt like I ate everything in sight. My nurse said not to panick it is a minor situation (I hope). I have no pre-op diet before surgery, but beginning next week (Monday) I need to pull it together, I don't want to go into surgery with a higher weight than at my consult 6/20. I am tentatively scheduled for 8/11 depending on insurance.

I honestly think we're all pretty normal. We have a strong bond with food and its to be expected. We just have to deal with it as best as we can and look to the future. I'm just trying to do better each day.

My last regular meal was a German all-you-can-eat, I know, not the healthiest choice, but it was nice. Been on 100% liquids since, surgery is 7/28 so almost there.

Well this was exactly were I was about 10-15 days ago, then I thought I would put a 2 week plan together to prepare me for my 2 week pre op diet (basically start cutting things out slowly - I posted the plan in another topic). The first week went pretty good. Then today during my pre-op phone consult with the nut she went over the pre-op diet with me, which I had already read over in the manual they gave me, I freaked out when she said no grains of any kind. I went straight to the grocery store after work and bought Bagels and had 2 for dinner :( then continued to make a cake. What the heck!! But my name is Erinn, and I'm a food addict. That's the bottom line. I will continue to follow my plan after this little bump in the road. And surgery is only 3 weeks away. It seems like yesterday it was 6.

Sounds like me but I'm really hoping I can do my 2 week pre-op. I really am afraid for my last meal. Are you doing it longer than 2 weeks because you wanted to (if so I give you credit) or is that the way your Doc. says to? I just wish he would give me a date so I know what kind of time-line I'm working with. The endoscopy is what is holding things up I can't seem to get an appoint. FYI one of my Daughters name is Erin, just a different spelling.

Good luck. My surgery is in a.m. I did not have to do liquid diet. I had veggie personnel size pizza, glass of sangria, Water and salad. It will be a very long time before I can sangria and pizza. I attended support group meeting tonight. It was a great motivator. There was a gentleman that lost 189 lb with banding. Another fella had dropped over 70 with banding.

It helped me keep calm.

Good Luck tomorrow. I wonder why some MDs put you on a 2 week liquid and some don't. They say it has something to do with making your liver smaller. I guess it depends on whether your MD can work around a bigger liver ! Best of luck in the AM. Keep us posted.

My 2 week pre-op diet is not a liquid diet but very strict. No grains, fruit, cheese, nuts, sugar, fat. Basically just Protein and veggies.

I started 2 weeks before this to try and eliminate things like pop, drinking with meals, snacking. I am trying a variety or Protein drinks (so I have the ones I like ready for post op). Trying to cut back on the not allowed items above. I just didn't want the 2 week pre-op to be a shock to my system. Some days I do well all day, most days I only do well till I get home from work....which is always my downfall.

I hope you get your endoscopy appointment soon!

Splurge while you can :D Once you have the surgery you have to get serious...you don't want to go through all the pain of surgery to splurge. Good Luck All

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
