Addicted to Sugar? Help!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I was banded back in May and am doing great!

I'm just having some trouble with some carbs, i.e. baked goods, candy, etc... Once I start, I can't stop! I can go a good while without indulging, but once it happens, WHAM!! The tornado has struck!!

The weird thing is, plain bread, rice, juice & sugary drink I'm ok with, and have no trouble having a bit or not having any! It's really weird!

I'm afraid the lack of control might eventually lead to streching out the pouch/ causing complications if I'm not careful! Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Any advice, insight or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I absolutely think it's possible to be addicted to sugar/carbs. I have PCOS which means (among other things) that my body doesn't process insulin correctly. So being insulin resistant, every time I have sugar or a carb, my body gets confused and asks me for more, and more, and more. That's an oversimplification but you know what I mean laugh.gif

At this point, I really think your best bet is to avoid your trigger foods altogether. I'd get some sugar-free flavored Syrup and you can use that to sweeten yogurt, or cottage cheese, and it'll feel like a sweet treat but it's still healthy. Some days I can have a small cookie or a bite of brownie and be fine... and some days just one bite sends me down a path of eating everything in sight. I wish I had a magic solution, 'cause I'd use it too!

Yes, the dreaded sugar problem, I have that too and what I've done is use honey and drizzle that over sugar free vanilla pudding if I need a sweet fix, but also sugar free popsicles and sugar free fudgicles help too. They are only 5 calories. But don't over do them, which can happen. Also, you can make a Protein shake with fruit or add any flavored extract to the Protein Drink for a different flavor. Hope this helps. :D

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
