What's your post-op liquid diet? Are you hungry?

Recommended Posts

I'm one week and two days post-op and so far I can tolerate:

sugar free Jello

sugar free pudding

Skim Milk- 4 oz

Clear liquids

Campbell's Soup at Hand.

Although it's on my Stage 2/Week 2 food List I just had a taste of these tonight to see if I could tolerate it but I didn't want to push it:

Mashed Potatoes-Really Really Whipped.

I was banded exactly a month ago (June 3rd) and the 1 week post-op diet consisted of zero calorie Powerade and such grade juice (mixed with water).

I was absolutely fine with that until Day 5..when I started to get famished. At that time, I had some homemade chicken broth and some eggs stirred in.

I'm only 5 days out and am only supposed to have Clear Liquids but I couldn't handle it. The thought of Jello or chicken broth makes me want to vomit. My mouth literally gets the vomit waters to think about it. So today I ventured out and had potato Soup, I ordered from mcalisters,I blended it more when I got it home. I ate about half a cup 20 min ago. So far so good. I hope I didnt start my thickened stage too early! I would start it Tuesday if I would have went perfectly by the steps!

Hi Readhead Girl,

I was only told to do two days post-op on clear liquids and then was able to start full liquids. I'd be hungry too! I'd call the Dr. and ask if you can move on to full sooner than a week if you're tolerating the clear fine but experiencing hunger.

JennyPenny

My week one diet is only CLEAR liquids, broth, Jello, Water, tea, apple juice.... Week 2 I can add cream of wheat, yogurt with no seeds or chunks and creamy Soups, Week 3 I can more "mushy" foods like scrambled eggs, cottage cheese...

I'm day 4 post-op and HUNGRY! Anyone else experiencing hunger?

All I have to say is THANK GOODNESS for this website and hearing from others who are going through this or have gone through this! It makes me feel so NOT alone in it all. :) I'm so excited to move pass all these hard phases and experience my band life. Today, I only got down about 25 oz of Water and just 3 of my meds and I had 3 popsicles. One more day of clear fluids and I'm on more liquids. I have felt so sick today, the crushed pills are horrible and I'm thinking of trying to just cut them into small pieces and swollow them that way tomorrow. I was told by a nurse to wait 4 weeks but honestly it is tearing my stomach apart and I get full on the liquid I'm taking it to just get them down! I think it's so strange how I feel "full" but I'm hungry. I can't take in anymore liquid but my stomach feels empty and wants food. Oh the things to get used too....

I am going on to post op day 5 today. I have asthma and some other medical issue and am quite a few meds. Since the second day post op I have been cutting up my meds with a pill cutter and taking them very slowly. I have been cutting them up pretty tiny but not crushed. I would gag with the crushed taste for sure. I was on Clear Liquids only for 2 days post so on day 3 I threw all my 'chewable' vit and meds into my blender with my Protein Shake. The first time I had the finely cut pills if I rushed I could feel heartburn so go tiny and slowly. Hope this helps you. Good luck, feel better.

I did, and a little bit of faintness at the end of my 2d week. But that went away as soon as I started on pureed foods. I had too many milk-protein shakes and had a bout of Constipation, which was very painful, so keep that possibility in mind. I enjoyed low sodium V8, yogurt, V8 fusion, milk.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
