Just banded and full of questions

Lizzy - those were some great links!! I like them better than what my doc gave out!

Hi, Tuckersmommy! I hate it for you that your dr. isn't good with the aftercare!

This post-op diet is pretty much identical to the one my doctor is going to have me on--maybe this guide can help you! Lap Band Post-Op Diet meal plan

This one looks good, too: Lap Band Diet Guide

If I were you, I would choose one of these (probably the first one) and follow it.

Will this same doctor's office be doing your fills?

I got back on the 14th. What had happened was he said he would come by before i left and explain everything in detail to me... He said between 4-5pm. Come 8 he was still not there... So the nurse paged him again. He intstructed go ahead and let me go. All they gave me was my discharge paper and a sheet that talked about eating slow, chewing and ect...

Well, start writing your questions for him down. If something pops into mind later on, just put it down too.

You are entitled to your instructions, and your questions answered. So put your questions on paper, and save room for him to wright the answer down

And we are always here, so someone can help out.

I was banded on 6/30/2011

My doctor is about worthless ( other than cutting me open and placing the band! )

I had only one day of the pre op diet ( liquid ). I stayed in the hospital over night then they let me go. My doctor said he would come by and explain things to me before he let me go. He said he would come about 4-5pm and he never shower. Finally the nurse came in at 8pm and gave up my Rx to fill just in case it was later before we could go. She gave me a paper that stated i could have liquids for 2 weeks. Here are a few ?s i have

1. My doc says no Protein shakes/drinks AT all. Do you agree? ( because i don't at all, nor does anyone i talked with )

2. Two weeks of broth & juice ( no milk,..ect )

3.Do you have the stitches removed or do they dissolve?

4. Should i be taking any Vitamins or something? I'm getting at most 500 cals a day.

5. What did you eat the first week, second week & then finally at a month?

6. Can you take Gas EX?

Please no * rude * comments. I am open to advice and comments

However- I cannot change docs due to my insurance, he is literally the only one in the state that i can see.

I had my surgery on May 17, and am doing well.

1. I was not told about Protein shakes, either way, by the Dr. A friend who had a gastric sleeve suggested them. They were convenient, but I wish I'd had fewer as I think they contributed to a really painful attack of Constipation. I'd suggest low sodium V8, pudding, Jello, as soon as you are off Clear Liquids. I was a bit faint at times, when I was on liquids, but don't expect to hop up from any surgery and go play tennis!

2. broth, etc. sounds a good idea to me. Don't confine yourself to low calorie versions, all the time, as you are not getting a lot of energy from the clear liquids in any event.

3 They dissolve. I only had stitches at the port location. The other incisions were closed with super glue. Let it dissolve off your skin naturally.

4. I was instructed to take two chewable Vitamins a day (double dose) I found chewable adult Vitamins that taste good.

5. First 2 weeks: liquids; not all "clear," V8, especially. Also pudding, Jello. Next two weeks: "Pureed" food. Since I seemed to be tolerating it well, I pushed the limits a bit and had Imitation Krab--well chewed. I had about anything that was soft to begin with and that I could shew a lot. At four weeks I went on a cruise with my family that had been planned for about 6 months. I ate appetizers, Soups, and one or two salads, and carefully chewed. I did not try to eat even as much as I thought I could tolerate.

6. I haven't tried, but I should.

My doctor was not around that I consciously recall, but he has a good Physician's Assistant, and I asked her everything. I also suggest writing the questions down, and if the Dr. is a no-show, leave the list with the staff and ask them to get back to you.

I would try to call into your Dr's office and find the answer to the questions you have now. You really need to know about the stitches!!!

My DR has been out of the picture since my surgery. I used True Results and my surgeon has a office at another seperate location. I go to True Results for my fills. I needed to see my surgeon and had to make an appointment to see him at his office.

I understand completely why you would be upset at him saying he would come by and then he did not. Perhaps he had an emergency with another patient. Still he should have had someone explain his absence to you.

Hope things go well for you.

You need to get your Protein in each day, some DR's don't like the shakes after you have gone through the initial healing stages.

Multi Vitamins are a must-another question you need an answer to ASAP!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
