Hi!

So today I am officially 2 weeks post op! I saw my Dr. on Wednesday (day12 post -op) I amdown 17 pounds and had NO pre-op diet! He admits to not being as stringent as most surgeons and said to attempt to start some solid food. He said cut it SUPER small and CHEW CHEW CHEW!

Well tonight I joined my hub and son at TGIF's { for those who are not familiar}:

http://www.tgifridays.com/menus/Menus.aspx

NOT AN EASY PLACE!

Thought I would do Soup but guess what? I minced and minced ONE (yes one) Boneless Buffalo Wing and ate it. I did chew that minced up wing a lot but I ate it with no issues. One hour to consume a minced Boneless Buffalo Wing.

I must say this was SOOOOO utterly depressing!:(

How did you all handle these feeling when dining out is a part of our lives?

Thanks for your SUPPORT in advance....

I think this is why it is best to go through the pre-op diet and do the three phases of eating post-op. It helps rid your system of all that junk that got us to obesity in the first place. It also helps you to learn how to eat less.

With that said, know that you will be able to eat again. You will just learn to eat less. You have to listen to your body and learn it well. Your body will tell you when you are satisfied.

When I go out to eat, I try to order off of the kid's menu if the restaraunt will allow it. I opt for grilled chicken and a veggie side. If that isn't an option, I order grilled chicken or some type of fish of the regular menu and enjoy the left overs the next day!

I know it's hard but I think you need to hold off eating out for now. At two weeks I was just moving to cottage cheese.< /p>

I am two weeks post-op as well and I am going through some of the same feelings. I seem to be missing eating. It's crazy. It looks like I have to find a new hobby... other than food!

Now that you're starting a new lifestyle - first word of advice: skip TGIF. Skip all chains. Skip all crappy, mass produced, fatty, sweet, short-order crap. When you go out - go out someplace where the ingredients are top notch, have hight nutritional value, taste great - and with you ability to only eat a little - it won't cost as much.

Have some fantastically poached salmon or Chilean sea bass...some incredibly tender Kobe mignon, seared ahi tuna, gazpacho, caviar - what the hell! Eating in restaurants will be come a pleasurable rather than painful - watching people around you put away a platter of twice baked potato skins and fried onion rings can make anyone sick to their stomach.

i am 6 weeks out so i'm on normal foods. the first time i went to a resturant to eat it was with my family and to a buffet none the less. i had one plate, where before i would have 2-3 and i was totally content. it was more frustratin knowing my family was watching what, how and how much i was eating! ugh!!! like i was an exhibit at the museum. wow 2 weeks and you can have solids. my surgeon was way more strict. i think even after 4 weeks when i was allowed solids i still did pureed foods at times just cuz i was petrified to hurt my band....i dont want to ever have surgery again. i think having people there to distract you so you're not so focused on the actual eating part and being able to pause and talk between food helps. Best wishes on your journey

THANKS for your thoughts.

I know time is a great healer of the soul. I just read a post from someone 5 days post-op missing food. Part of the deal here for ALL of us. My Dr., did encourage real food at this point. I am still on shakes etc.. but does want me to try to eat as well. With the one boneless wing I was NOT concerned about calories LOL More about being SO UNSATISFIED!:(

Eating out MORE upscale was a good idea too but with kids often hard....

This weekend will be a challenge for all us newbies but we will DO IT! Have a HAPPY 4th EVERYONE!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
