You will do just fine. I didn't tell anyone but imediate family and don't plan to right now. Figure it is my business. And I did have a hernia fix while doing Lapband, didn't know I had it but it became my answer to the questions why I wasn't here or there or what was wrong. Worked for me and I didn't have to tell a lie which I wouldn't anyways , just wouldn't answer or change subject. Good days ahead for you I am sure. I am two weeks after surgery and doing pretty good now. Not ever hungry, which amazes me.

Congradulations on your two week success And thank you for your encouraging words. I feel bad lying to my kids, but they won't understand. Its 7pm and I'm still at the hospital. Been sick with nausea and dizziness and only can hold 12oz per hour. What did you do with your gas pains. When I try yo burp it comes like a hiccup 

I'm not even two weeks post-op and I'm starting to forget what life was like pre-band. :)

The ONLY thing that helped me was to walk walk walk. It helped in every direction. Gas, Nausea , and gave me someenergy so I could rest better. Now I didn't walk a mile then but just is marks of 15 minutes 3 or 4 times a day and at least one of those the steps and that helped with the gas alot. It came out in all directions( not to be crude. And I didn't worry about the oz I took in because it kept me stressed so the nurse said just to keep something to sip on around at all times and that finally worked for me and I got in almost all I need every day.

Good Morning everyone, I am 9 days post -op and feel very well. An occasional pulling sensation at the port site when turning over -still sleeping on the couch tho- but overall things are healing nicely. Had my staples out Thursday, and was told to go on pureed foods instead of another week of liquids. Still doing some liquids as I'm a bit nervous about putting "real" food into my pouch. Is anyone else at this stage of pureed, and how does it feel in your stomach?

I'm went back to work yesterday-I stand most of the day- and only felt extra tired last night. Even went to the first high school football game last night! My stomach muscles felt sore frome sitting on the bleachers but not a problem.

To CHICHOLICIOUS: The best thing you can do to relieve the gas and shoulder pains is walk. Walk alot even if it is just laps around your living room. I didn't walk enuf and didn't get the gas moving so had gas pain for too many days. I felt like you at the last minute before surgery, thinking this really is extreme to lose weight. But I looked at my whole life since puberty and all the yo yo dieting and realized that it wouldn't change. That is my pattern, and I needed a more permanent solution. We come to this point in our lives when we are determined to make a change and we must go for it. You will be happy with your decision. I only told the people who absolutely needed to know- about 6 people. Everyone else really doesn't need to know your private medical info. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and only give that info to the people who need to know about the fact that I had surgery and can't do some things because of it ie: lifting more than 10 lbs. So I suggest not to worry about it.

Good luck to the rest of the "soon to be banded". I'll keep you in my prayers. HW

I was banded on 8/11 and I am having problems getting my liquids in, I know I am nowhere near what I suppose to be, but after few sips it makes my gas worse and then I feel this pressure like in my upper abdomen. It's starting to frustrate me!!!

Hi Ms. Lady,

Hope you feeling well. I'm having the same issue you where having (sipping Water makes the gas worseand then feeling pressure of my upper abdomen. Any advice how you dealt with this? Greatly appreciate it :)

Hi healthy woman,

Been thru that yo-yo dieting since my teenage years. It's been fustrating and depressing. Gaining more weight then I can loose. For me this is my last resort, and hopefully would not fail. I feel so much encoragements coming from everyone in this forum. I wish everyone success! Please keep me up to date with any of your hurdles(hopefully not any). Mine right now is being able to take my meds without them getting stuck! No matter how small I break them, they still get stuck. Ugh!!

My surgery is tomorrow, Aug 29th and i'm a bit nervous and don't know what to expect but i'm definitely NOT having cold feet. I have been on this weight roller coaster for so long, i'm looking forward to a new healthy life.

A couple of things, I wasn't put on a pre-op diet. Is that necessary? My doctor just had be on Clear Liquids for the 2 days before surgery...

Any advice for surgery day and the following days would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I was liquid 10 days ahead and I know it helped me be prepared for the 5 day liquid after and then the mush days. You will do just fine though I am sure. Take it slow getting up and down cause it pull alittle at the port area. Walk all you can to help with the gas you will have. The was the best advise i got and it does work at getting the gas out quicker. Take you pains meds faithful for the first day or so and let you self heal in those days. And I think you will do great.

Just know that like many of us you have probably tried many many other ways and this is the one that will give us the skill to finally getit done. Will be praying alll goes well and it is a great success for you.

Bodychek,

Good luck tomorrow! I expected surgery to be a big ordeal and it wasnt anything to worry over. I was home 2 hours later. Tomorrow is the first day of making your life better! I didnt have to do a pre-op diet either. My doc did have me cut down 3 days before surgery with one meal and 2 meals Protein Drink. Your doctor knows whats best for you. Just know that you will be sore and you need to use the meds they give you for the first couple of days. Wishing you the best! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
