Should I exercise or not?

Recommended Posts

Okay here's what happened to me.

In May I worked my ass off. I worked out 5-6 days a week for 30-40 minutes and killed it. I was eating 1200 calories a day and getting around 80 grams of Protein. But I didn't loose anything I only lost 3 pounds. My doctors were really upset and I felt really discouraged as well.

In June I continued to work out, not loosing anything. However when my work out partner went on vacation I stopped working out. In that 10 days, I lost 15 pounds.

So what should I do? Should I stop working out as much? Maybe 3 to 4 times a day? Or should I just stop and let the weight fall off that way?

I like working out but I want to work out and also loose weight. Can I do both?

You probably weren't getting enough calories when you were working out causing your body to go into survival mode. Now that you aren't burning so many calories (I'm assuming you are still eating 1200) your body doesn't think it's being starved. I would go back to working out and kick the calories up a little.

Eat more, exercise. I always stress the importance of exercise because well...it's important. Doesn't have to be extremely strenuous; go for a walk for 30 minutes, you can easily burn a good 200 calories if you keep up a solid pace.

I'll also say that without exercise, you're losing not only fat but muscle, the idea is to maintain as much muscle mass as possible.

Well i have read quite a lot on plateaus since i have been on one for a couple weeks. They say that the body gets used to exercise, if you have been doing the same thing, your body gets used to it and learns to spend less energy doing it... They recOmmend changing it around, same with calories. And yes, like the other said, you might have been eating too little calories.

One question i think you should ask yourself... Does your body look better when you exercice? Are you loosing inches? If you are, then manby you are not loosing on the scale, but your body is in transformation and you are actually getting smaller by changing the composition inside your body.

The body is really special, how many times have i been eating so many calories and not really lOosing and then eat junk food and loose that week!!!

I think that exercice for long term is the key, i dont do enough, and i admire ppl like u!

G luck

I agree with the other posters. Don't stop exercising. You may need to eat more. I noticed less weight loss in the last week since I've reached my 6 week post op and started exercising more vigorously. I am not going to stop exercising because I know it will ultimately be for my benefit. Some people on this site have suggested that your body retains Water when you exercise a lot. Good luck and congratulations on the 15 lbs. I doubt you would have lost 15 lbs in one week if you hadn't been exercising previously.

She didn't lose 15lbs of fat; if anything she dropped a lot of Water weight that she was carrying from exercising.

I think everyone needs to remember that the scale measures weight loss, not fat loss. Weight loss includes fat, muscle, water, waste, and so on. Exercise encourages and usually results in fat loss, the main idea behind getting healthier. Anyone can undereat and lose muscle mass/water weight and see a huge drop on the scale. Losing fat is the main goal, or should be.

I did not suggest that she lost 15 lbs of fat. I only suggested that she should continue to exercise.

Okay I am going to continue to exercise I really missed exercising. I liked the way I felt. I was getting into my older jeans from the bottom of my closet. I was feeling amazing.

I agree that the 15 pounds of weightloss is probably from the exercise previous to that it's just annoying that in order to see that I had to stop the exercise to see my scale move.

I am going to go back to exercising 6 days a week like I was and then up my calories to about 1400. Does that sounds better? :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
