Help! Iv hit a Plateau!

Recommended Posts

Hey All. I am 11 months out since having lapband and coming up on my 1 yr anniversary. I have lost a total of 70lbs so far...yay me! BUT the Weight loss has been soooo slow for the past 3 months. My last fill was March 1st, I lost 6lbs fast after that fill but since April 15th I have lost NOTHING. Iv been tittering tottering back and forth 2lbs for 2 mnths now. It is so frustrating! I know Im gonna need to give you some details so you can maybe give me some advice or at least let me know if you have been there and give me encouragement it wont last. here it goes.....Iv been going to the gym since shortly after being banded. I was going 4x a week but a few months ago I slacked off and went maybe 2-3x per week over the past month since my plateau Iv increased back to 4x...I take high cardio classes and weight training. I tried to stay strictor on low carb but that only lasted a few days as I cant be that strict with just meat and low carb veggies. I drink all of my fluids and Water and exercise, since my last fill on March 1st Iv been debating if Im too tight...I can still eat plenty of calories a day...but Iv started to get heartburn alot and now take prilosec every day to help it. I also get some stuck episodes more now and cant eat at all until lunch time each day. I can only drink in the mornings as Im too tight in the a.m. I also cut out any type of iced coffees or lattes like I was drinking, I thought maybe they were adding too many calories for the day and causing me not to lose weight . I can eat an array of things but dense meats, breads and raw veggies I cant do them at all now. Anyway, Id like to know if anyone else has been through this long of a plateau and how you pushed through it and how long it took? Im very frustrated because I really wanted to be down another 20 lbs by now. I feel like Iv been doing things right and following the band rules but maybe Im not? any help would be great!! thanks.

Plateaus are very frustratin :( Have u tried changing up your exercise routine? When I hit a 18 day plateaU a few weeks ago I dropped my calories down to 800 for a while, it's tough but it got me out of my slump. Best of luck to you!

I wish I could help! I just got through a plateau, I had to start doing the exercise I had pretty much stopped. But you're already doing that! Definitely get your band checked out--that heartburn can't be doing good things for you. Best of luck.

I was moving kinda slow to, so I brought my carbs down to 20. I am going to do that for two weeks at least. Moving pretty fast now.

Good luck! You can do it!

If you can't eat dense meat, are having heartburn and weight loss has stopped, you might be too tight and need a tiny unfill. I know it sounds odd, but when we're too tight we tend to eat softer, higher calorie foods.

Journal everything that goes in your mouth for a week and go in and talk to your nurses or dietician and see if they can help you.

Another thing that might be happening is that you are reshaping. Take your measurements today and again in a month, wearing the same clothing.. and see if the numbers aren't different.

When my weight loss slows, I have to add extra exercise if I want to see it move faster. I'm already at about 1100 to 1200 calories a day and don't want to drop it lower (don't think it's healthy for ME) so I have to add more cardio. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is.

Hang in there. I'd seriously think about a tiny unfill.. heartburn is nothing to mess around with long term. 2/10ths of a cc can make a world of difference.

Thanks Melissa, that was a great help!! I never would dream that being too tight would cause me NOT to lose weight but maybe Im more tight than I think.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
