Question for Bandsters doing low carb

Recommended Posts

I know that alot of people are doing low carb. How many carbs do you try to keep it at for the day?

I have been keeping my calories at 1200 or lower, but I think I am going to try and limit my carbs more. I think that might help me to lose a tad bit faster. My carbs recently have been as much as my Protein. So today so far I am at about 70 protein and about 15 carbs. But I need to eat dinner still, so I figure I might be around 20-25 carbs for the day and about 80+ protein.

Thanks :P

Ideally I'd aim for 50g carbs a day, but realistically I fluctuate between 50-100. Seems to work for me, at least for now.

I was about there also. Maybe I am just getting in an impatient mood right now. Dont you ever have those days where you wish it would go a little faster.

I really can't complain, I am still losing (after my 4 week recovery plateau) and I feel pretty awsome for the most part. And besides the one day a week were I would like to eat everything in the house, I have been doing pretty good restriction wise. :P Saturday seems to be my grazing day. I have to catch myself about 1/2 way thru the day to stop myself.

I might try doing a little bit lower carbs and see where it takes me for a week. :D

laugh.gif I often remind myself that it's healthier to lose slow and try not to be annoyed by it. Good luck on lowering your carbs, and report back!

I do watch my carbs and I try to stay between 40-59g per day but I don't beat myself up if I go over occasionally. So far, it's working for me...

I swear by a lowcrarb diet. When I was loosing I ate 20 or so carbs a day. No bread, Pasta, rice, potatoe or even fruit. Fruit has a lot of sugar, natural sugar, but still sugar. I would have a lowcarb shake for Breakfast, too tight in the morning for solids. I stuck to a lean protien (chicken breat, fish, port loin) and non-starchy veggies for lunch and dinner. I would have a planned snack of 1/4cnuts and 2 lowfat cheese sticks for a snack.

Now that I am maintaining, I eat "good carbs" like whole wheat pasta and bread, fruit, sweet potatoes, brown rice. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months and have kept it off since Sept. Good luck!

When I'm following a low-carb diet, I don't count carbs. Instead, I just completely cut out flour, sugar, and starches which leaves me with Proteins, some dairy (cheese for instance), vegetables and the occasional fruit. Anything else I buy (dressings, sauces, coffee creamer) has to have less than 4g carbs per serving and I watch my serving size carefully with those.

I do this mostly because I hate counting stuff, but if you're already in the habit of counting calories, it might not be so difficult to count carbs.

I stayed under 30g of carbs when I did low carbing. I just stopped eating bread, rice, Pasta, etc. I did lose most of my weight doing low carb but I don't do low carb anymore.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
