What kind of restriction after 1st fil?

Recommended Posts

Hope some of you can give a Bandster Hell gal some hope! I won't have my first fill for another 3 weeks. I read that it can take several fills to feel something. Did anyone get good restriction with their first fil? Did it help with your appetite at all? How many weeks did you have to wait until your 2nd fill?

I had my first fill on June 1st. I have a little bit more restriction, but not much. My second fill is scheduled for July 5th.

It definitely helped, but it wasn't enough. I got my 2nd fill today.

I am curious too. My first fill is next Tues, the 14th. I can't wait for some restriction. I've been trying to follow all the rules, but it takes a lot of will power, I'm ready to feel some effects from the band! If I could follow this strict of a diet without restriction I wouldn't have needed a band in the first place.

first fill didn't do that much for me. "Restriction" lasted about 2 days but then I was hungrier after it. It was 2 weeks til 2nd fill. Just got to power through it.

Thankfully, my doc is pretty aggressive with fills. Band started empty, 1st fill was 4.5ccs, 2nd fill was 1.5ccs. 2nd fill turned out to be a bit too much & I got a slight unfill. Waited a few weeks & got a small 3rd fill. I've been at this point for almost 4 months now.....but I think I'm ready for another one.

cheers,

chloe

You are funny. I just got my first fill three days ago. Not much of a difference, but I expected it (thanks to this forum). I had been going throught the "bandster hell" also. I am fortunate that my doctor says that I can come back every week to get a fill if needed. I am already scheduled for my next one! I am hoping after the next couple fills that I will feel some restriction too. Best of luck to you!

My first fill was 4 weeks after band and I felt some restriction for about 2-3 days. Since then I am struggling. Hungrier every day. I can't wait until fill number 2! I am getting that in about 1 1/2 weeks. My DR has me returning for fills every 4 weeks.

I skipped my first 2 fills, then I had my one and only fill 3 months after surgery. My surgeon is aggressive with the first fill - 5 ccs - because they feel like it helps people get to the right restriction faster. After the first fill, from what they told me, they give 1 cc per fill. I had some restriction from the beginning but it wasn't until I had my fill that I started to have occaisional PB episodes.

Okay, so I shouldn't expect reallu anything for my first fill-and if I do it won't last long :(

I wonder if I can ask my doctor to be agressive with it??? Is that ever done? Or at the very least request that I come back sooner if the fill isn't making a difference? I just can't see the point of waiting weeks for another fill when the purpose of the surgery is to help control the hunger.

Has anyone else asked their doctor for more ccs or to come back sooner? I don't want to wait 2 months to feel any restriction :(

I had my first fill 6 days ago and after the swelling went down, I don't have any restriction again. My dr told me before he did the fill, that it could take up to 3 before I would feel restriction and to come back in 5 weeks for fill #2. I've decided I'm going to call to try on Monday and try to get in on the 3 week mark. If he won't be agressive...I will :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
