7 days post op and i need help....

I am surprised that your doctor didn't prescribe you liquid pain meds. Darn! I think that the few times I've taken that liquid Vicodin has really helped me. It especially helped me sleep last night. Maybe you should call them and ask!

If you are still in a lot of pain, you need to be more aggressive with your doctor about pain medication. Tylenol does nothing for me. It never has. Even vicodin which is just tylenol with something to make you feel tired or drugged doesnt even make me drowsy. Doctors these days are so afraid to prescribe pain meds, but you shouldn't have to suffer. I'm sorry you are having pain and wish you a speedy recovery.

Uh... vicodin has hydrocodone in it, which is an opiate. It should be plenty to take the pain away. The tylenol in it is to help reduce the swelling.

They make adult dosage tylenol in liquid form-- I got mine at Walmart. I'm assuming your doc is suggesting children's tylenol because it's liquid, but they do make "regular" tylenol as well.

I bought the liquid Tylenol and it is "Rapid Release." It will be right by the regular Tylenol.

Also, I felt like pure crap up until about 4 days ago (I am 2 weeks post op today). It does get better. Walking will help you a lot with the gas pain and the Gas-X strips help out a lot.

Uh...acetaminophen (tylenol) does not have an anti-inflammatory effect. Instead, it relieves pain by working centrally (in the brain) to switch off the perception of pain. Look it up.

Secondly, while hydrocodone may be effective for some, not all people respond the same way to every drug. Hydrocodone has no effect on me at all. I've been prescribed vicodin several times during my life with no relief of pain. I dont even bother filling the prescription because it is just a waste of money.

The main point I was making is that if you are still in pain despite what you have been prescribed, then you need to fight a little harder for some relief.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
