Hi ! I am Timothy Greenwood. I was banded March of 2011 and have lost over 70 pounds. I am so happy I stuck to my guns and got this procedure done. I cannot recommend it highly enough to EVERYONE! Dr. DiCicco was my surgeon. He has been so supportive and helpful in all ways. I struggled with the Chiake (SP?) at the beginning and just went hungry but since I've been rolling along. I just had my band tightened a month and a half ago and the doctor is right. That's when the game changes. I thank GOD every day for the courage and support I received to go through with this. And for regaining my life. And control of my life. It's my race to win or lose now. If I can support anyone please let me know. I'm just so excited it's been nothing but a positive experience for me and I pray will continue to be so as I progress. I know I have a long way to go yet, but I WILL MAKE IT!

WOW Congrats on your new beginnings! :) I have not been banded yet but I would like to read about your journey so far with the band. I'm hoping I will have mine by June 30th.

Best Advice I can give? DO WHAT THE DOCTOR SAYS. If they say JUMP! Ask HOW HIGH? I struggled a little bit at first and just tried to tough it out. But after a few phone calls I realized help is there and the docs are there to give it. My doctor's staff and forums like this are absolutely invaluable! They can give you the support and direction you need when you need it most. And also. Be aware. This is a fight! You gained this weight over years. In my case all my life. It's a struggle but a good one, to lose it. Persevere and you will be triumphant! I love the new me. I like the new me ... and gosh darn it. I'M HAPPY AGAIN!

Congratulations! What is Chiake?

CHIAKE I'm not sure on the spelling is the whey Protein shakes they had me on for 2 weeks prior to my surgery. To me it tasted horrible. To my sister Holly Forcier who was just banded 2 weeks ago it made her sick. So something about it wasn't setting right I guess. I got through it and so did she. But it wasn't easy.

Ohhhh... so it's a brand of Protein Shakes? It definitely helps bandsters to find a shake they like and can stomach! Congrats again!

It certainly will soon :) It sure seemed like a bubble was going to burst to me at times. I was just worried something.. anything .. would change. BUT NO. Everything went according to plan and voila! I had my moment ... my lapband and things have been great since. Just keep that positive outlook and keep focusing on the good things. It will be so great you won't believe it!

Congratulations to you Tim!! Would love to see pics of the old and new you. I was just banded on the 8th of June (2 days ago). The shakes they had me on were pretty good...I went through True Results. After the surgery, they told be to do the Atkins or EAS shakes. I am doing the Atkins and they are not bad, kind of like a thick chocolate shake. I know you are probably past that now, but for someone who is not you might try the Atkins shakes. It is encouraging to hear how much you have lost, I can't wait to be there too!! Congrats again!!

Yeah I went through Pasco Surgical Associates. You MUST buy your shakes through them and they are Chiake Brand. Wasn't pleasant. BUT I did persevere. I am through that phase now and have even had my first fill and 2nd follow up post fill. Doing so good. There are rough Patches like in everything in life, but the benefits have so outweighed the negatives. SO I am happy!

This is good news...now I know what I have to look forward to. My first fill is on July 5th. He did put a little saline in my band at the time of surgery so hopefully that will chase away the hungries!! Still feeling a little bloated, but hopefully that will pass. I know I need to walk more... I am so happy for you, keep me posted and I will do the same!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
