there is one at the Center for Emotional Wellness in Cherry Hill that is supposed to be fantastic - haven't checked it out yet. Going to my first appt. with the lap band doc tomorrow, stoked after the seminar this week and just found out my insurance will cover 100% of the cost so I am really excited!

Hi Jersey,

I'm a Jersey Girl, too. I live in Arizona for the last year. I was born and raised in Jersey City. But lived in Franklin Park,Somerset Co. for 20 yrs.I am going through many tests and drs. appointments right now.Still not 100% sold on lapband. Probably 90%. My insurance won't cover unless a year with diabetes or health related issues. Will pay out of pocket if I have to, but would love to have ins. cover it or part. Does anyone know or have any ideas of how to get around the insurance issues? I have about 80 lbs. to loose. Please talk me into this!!

do you have any of the health issues ? diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc? OR do you have issues moving around ?

I don't have a lot of the health issues but i do have sleep apnea and had a hard time walking around. now after surgery and loosing almost 50 lbs I can now walk all over and not get tired or sore from just walking around. it's just one perk to it. also you will have that tool the rest of you life and it will help to lose weight and keep it off as long as you eat what you are supposed to.

for me it was totally worth it... tried everything before it and this is the one thing that has helped the most. so if you can afford to pay out of pocket i would do it... it will make your quality of life so much better :)

Congratulations! My Doctor is Dr. Nusbaum. He's the head of bariatric at Morristown Memorial and St. Barnabus.

I have been told I'll feel like I did when my gallbladder was removed in post-op. Anyone know if that is true!?

My GF is using his associate and I knw he is well respected but very tough on his post-op diet.

My 15 yr old niece had her gall bladder out, not as many areas of entry as the lap band and NO port which as I said is painful and sore 4 me right now. Stay in touch! Perhaps we can meet at a support group sometime! Your the 1st Morris County person I have met here!:)

Morris County here, too! I replied to you a while back. Glad to hear that surgery went well. I had a LOT of soreness around the port area, too. That will take the longest to go away. And I got very itchy as I healed :)

Took a couple of weeks before I could sleep comfortably, too.

Have you found any support groups in Morris County?

I had my gallbladder out years ago and I will say that the recovery from Lap Band took longer...I agree I think it's because of the port...but the discomfort is pretty much the same.

Glad to find some other Jersey Girls here!

Hi Donna,

Still coming along on my 2nd day post-op. Morristown Memorial has a lap band support group the 1st Tuesday of each month. I plan to go in July. Perhaps you and Katie will too? Stay in touch?

What are you eating these days?

Yes glad to hear you are doing well!!

I'm eating too much right now...I keep losing and gaining the same two pounds. Had an anniversary dinner and a wedding this past weekend and even though I ate much less than I normally would and I was dancing the whole time at both...I still ate too much.

I've also not been drinking my Protein shakes -- I HATE THEM!!! But I have heard from others that they are crucial during the weight loss period. I still have no restriction after my first fill :( I'm still waiting for the day that I actually feel full and don't want to have a second dinner 90 minutes after my first dinner!! I'm trying to stay positive, but it's been a rough couple of weeks for me.

I NEED to go to a support group meeting and get motivated again. Please give me the details of the meetings at Morristown Memorial and I will see if I can make either July or August.

Thanks!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
