physical job questions

Recommended Posts

Just have some general questions. Im trying to find out how long before returning to work when you have a physically demanding job? If you had some complications by going back to work too soon? My job is very demanding and there is no light duty so im trying to find out if its in my best interest to take more time off or go back to work at two weeks.

I have a very physical job too. I'm an LVT, lots of bending, lifting on my feet all day, 10 hour shifts. I was more than comfortable going back one week post op. Though I would only lift no more than 25# dogs until week 3-4 post op, I think. Then I started picking up large dogs again. Some people it seems would not be comfortable with that though, I think it depends on your pain tolerance, mine is pretty high. I was a bit sore bending over but nothing intolerable to me. I had only taken the pain meds day 1 and 2 post op and not religiously either

I would think 2 weeks would be enough. I would talk to your doc. about it for sure. He may want to see you, then give you clearance to go back to work. Congrats on your impending surgery.

I would wait more than 2 weeks. I worked with people in wheelchairs at the time and my doctor made me take off 5 weeks. I am glad I did becaues if I tryed lifting a 100lbs person and am not healed all the way they warned me I could rip my internal sutures.

I have an active job, not really physical, but demanding, and my doctor suggested I take four weeks, even six! But I'm in week four now, and even though I'm glad I took it, because I want to heal properly, I honestly feel I could've gone back today, after three weeks. my doc wants me comfortable with my band before going back.

I have the same job as you , If you look at your other post I answer you , for me took two weeks off , came back on a wenesday , so I would only have to work three days and be off for two more , I wouldn't even think about coming back on a Monday and doing a full week , and a lot people think they have a physical job , so the comments will be over and different

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
