It sounds like you were not given much information about the band before surgery. This happens sometimes, you are not alone. I would like to suggest that you begin doing research (on this forum and/or other places online) on the band and how it works. Hopefully with a better understanding you will have more success.

With respect to drinking water ... everyone needs to drink approx. 64 oz. of water everyday. Water is essential to staying healthy with -- or without the lapband. It absolutely aids in weightloss, but more importantly, if you become dehydrated after having lapband surgery you will likely find yourself in the emergency room. Please stay hydrated.

Knowledge is power. There is a lot of info on this forum. Read, read, read. You are ahead of the game because you have already had the surgery. Now you just have to educate yourself.

All the best to you on your journey.

How many calories are you getting? Most Docs recommend around 1000 a day. Do you exercise? You absolutely must get you Water and Protein in. I do best with 70+ grams of protein and around 100 oz of water. Keep in mind that you have less to loose than some of us so you loss may be slower. You've lost almost 1/4 of your weight I. 3 mos. If you can keep that up you should be fine.

You had a lower starting BMI than many bandsters. I'd expect your weight loss rate to be on the lower end of average. You've lost 15 pound so far, that is actually great for 3 months! That is 1 1/4 pounds per week. Bandsters can expect 1-2 pounds per week AVERAGE loss. For you to be losing that right off, including your post-op healing phase is fantastic.

If you are thirsty, you are not drinking enough. You should be drinking 3-4 liters a day. Thirst is the first symptom of dehydration.

My average weight loss was 3/4 of a pound per week. I think you are doing fantastic.

Water to the body is like oil to the engine.

Especially when our metabolism shifts into a "fat burn" phase. Conversion of stored glycogen in the fat cells of all those old extra cheese burgers and brownies around our waists...requires processing with extra H20 for the process to proceed.

Also, the changes in our digestive tract are much supported with adequate WATER...not other forms of liquid which all require some form of physiological conversion from whatever it is, to just Water.< /p>

The detoxification process and the increased demands on gall bladder producing bile which is essential in fat conversion to energy, requires water.

Later phases of normo life will require adequate water. Not so much as during active reduction from Morbid Obesity though.

Often even now 6.5 years postOp, I find when I think I'm hungry, it really is "thirst" that is the signal. Drink plenty of water to help your system function properly.

Thanks so much for helping me out. I now understand why we need more Water.

I will not be depressed now, thanks for encouraging me !!! I am doing moderate exercise, and slowly loosing in cms.I have arthritis and I am 56 yrs old.

So I should not expect a drastic weight loss. I have lost the weight I had put on in the last 3 yrs. Naturally I will take longer to get rid of the weight which has been with me for almost 20 yrs!!

Thanks once again !

If you are thirsty, drink more :) simple enough.

Also.. maybe it's just me, but the band.. since it kills your hunger, should mean you don't need to snack...you should be able to go 4-5 hours w/o eating... or if you are snacking make sure you are counting those calories. For me, I eat 3, about 400 calories meals a day. If I was snacking I'd have to subtract the calories from my meals.

One thing I have noticed since being banded. I am thirsty more often and drink more Water than I did before. I am not sure why or how but it is a fact. So drink!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
