Any other over 50 yr old Lap Banders?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting banded on June 21st and was wondering if there are any others who are over 50 and have had the Lap Band process. My doctor said I didn't need to be on any special diet before my surgery, but I have been eating healthier anyway due to husbands heart problems. I know my road will be different from most due to leg nerve damage and back problems. Any tips anyone could pass on to me? I would love to hear from you. I'm excited and scared.

Hello my name is candy I am 57 years old and just had the lap band done on June 3, 2011. I did not do a special diet before, I basically eat pretty well I just have no matabolisim to burn fat and have developed high blood pressure so this was the way that I chose to do.

The surgery went fine. Recovery was a little slow because of my age. Stomach is sore but otherwise ok

You will do fine im sure, Good Lucl

I was 50, very overweight but with few health problms other than borderline high blood pressure, constant fatigue and horrible heartburn when I was banded 6 months ago. Today at 51 my BP is normal, havent taken so much as a tylenol for any ailment (including post op pain) since November 2010 and have more energy than when I was 40!B)

Best of luck you you and all the children of the 50s and 60s!

Try Prylosec for the Heartburn, or Pepcid Complete. That one you chew up.

We were put on that after surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
