Pre op diet day 7....help!

Recommended Posts

I am on Day 7 of the pre op diet with surgery on 6/1. I am going through sugar withdrawal, coca-cola withdrawal, you-name-it withdrawal and I am having second thoughts. I thought this would be no problem, but it is tough. I will get through it, but I am having a tough day. I have no energy, I have a chronic dull headache and I just want to sleep. Will this pass? Please help... Has this happened to you? Did you get through it? I need to just suck it up and deal. unsure.gif

Make sure you are drinking lots of Water and take your vitiamins too! The high Protein Shakes should help too. Someone once wrote that they put a note up that said "I can do anything for ___ (insert how many days left) days. For example "I can do anything for 6 days" change the number each day. Sounds weird but it really helped me somehow. I had Soup (low sodium french onion no cheese or bread of course) and I sliced mushrooms into it. It was like heaven!! Good luck you can do it!!!

Come on enchilada you can do this! Try a cup of coffee to get rid of your headache. Use splenda or truvia to sweeten it If that doesn't work or u don't like coffee excedrin Migraine will it has caffiene in it. I just finished day 8 of my diet. I get banded the day before you. To be successful we have to give some things up. I miss my coke zeros badly but I know giving them up is the best for me and my health. You can do this mind over matter at this point think positive!

i was a heavy diet coke drinker but gave it up several months ago.. oh man, those headaches were awful. my doctor suggested i have some caffeinated tea or coffee.. just a small cup, to help cope with it, and it really helped. i've never been a coffee/tea drinker but that really did it for me. just a small cup will end the headaches. i only needed to do it twice or three times before i was out of the darkness. before you know it you will be feeling fine. i was just banded last week and occasionally still crave my diet soda but dont get sick over it. you can do it! also with the sugar cravings... eesh. i am diabetic but never really took care of myself because i was such a big fan of sugar... but after about 2 weeks without it, the intense cravings really died down. just remember, you're much better and stronger than sugar and soda! the results are worth the withdrawals.. by far!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support. I had a cup of hot tea with a little lemon and with in minutes- poof...the headache was gone. You all are so right. I made my dinner and a few minutes after that my energy returned. I am not used to listening to what my body is telling me. I am learning the signs and will get to know what I need as I become healthier. Thank you all for talking me off "the ledge". I appreciate it! Feeling much-o better-o this morning!Banane47.gif

I am on day 9 of the pre-op diet..i get banded ont he 31st, and let me tell you I know exactly how you feel. The first 4 days I thought I was going to have a breakdown, I felt dizzy, sick to my stomach, terrible headache, all I wanted to do was lay on the couch and sleep.

By about day 7 I was used to it, and when I stepped on the scale and saw that I have lost 9 lbs already in one week, I was ecstatic! I figure if I can make it through 9 days, there is no reason I can't survive 5 more days and then life after surgery. I am SO excited for this.

Hope your surgery goes well! I will be in just one day before you.

Good luck, we can do it!!

I put a sign on my fridge and pantry that says "Nothing tastes as good as think will feel" and it has truely helped me. I hear your pain, I am an avid coke drinker (won't even admit to how much per day) and had the worst headache when I went cold turkey. Switch to diet for a week then go to no soda...worked great for me, because the headaches are caffine withdrawl.

Thanks for sharing enchilada 72, I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and I have all kinds of butterfiles. I'm so worried that I'm not going to make to June 9. Good Luck!

I'm so happy you are feeling better!

I know exactly what you mean about being terrified to give up soda. I didn't know how I'd live without my daily Coke Zeros (at least 2 20 oz bottles). I am 9 days post-op now and since surgery I have not had one craving for Coke. I can tell you I struggled with being scared of surgery and all the changes it requires - and then when I actually had surgery it was as if it was all falling together. I don't know if it was just a psychological change where I knew I couldn't have any after surgery so I don't crave it or what... But let me tell you what worked for me before surgery. Crystal Lite. I bought those little packs you just dump in a cup of cold Water and used half a pack per cup. I fell in love with the lemonade, it hit the sweet spot and helped me stay away from Coke.

Good luck to you! You can do it! :)

;) I am on day 3, the first 2 days were the hardest and my family has been supportive but I feel bad that they might feel as if they cant eat things around me.

This is not easy and i feel very tempted to cheat or splurge one last time.

Day 3 is almost over and 11 more days to go.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
