How do you handle the naysayers?

Recommended Posts

I have posted it on my Facebook page, I have told anyone that I talk to..ok not strangers...but family, friends, etc. I hadn't been to my PCP in over a year and saw him today. I think he was surprised but he said he thought the band was the right way for me to go. Over the years he has seen me lose...but gain more back. I can lose weight, I just can't keep it off and this will be a constant reminder.

Some of my co-workers are concerned, but at the same time very supportive. My birthday is a week after my surgery and they usually have cake for the birthdays. The last person who's birthday it was plans the next, she came to me today to ask what I wanted. We are going to have yogurt!

The naysayers don't understand. But with me, I am 54 years old and 5'2". I weighed 155 when I graduated from High School and in 3 months after that I was at 190. I have done Jenny Craig, Nutrisystems, Weight Watcher, diet pills, doctors...you name it. Its time to live!

I don't bother about all the NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ! That some of these people can dish out.

They have not walked in my shoes at all ! So how can they possibly know anything that I have done,

or been through. It's not possible as far as I can see.... So they can ramble on with all there wise words of wisdom,

when in turn they are just walking mountains of misinformation ! So I don't listen to them at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
