Pain behind collar bone?

Recommended Posts

Hi - banded a week ago and have been experiencing a really, really sharp pain behind my collarbone. If I press my fingers just above my collarbone it seems to help it some, but it's getting so bad today I could cry. Is this normal?

:faint:

this is probably gas pain from when the pump CO2 into you during laproscopic surgery. my pain went away within 3 weeks of surgery. i didn't have it around the collar bone but sort of behind there in the shoulder. gas-x sort of helped, so try some of that and perhaps a pain med. best of luck to you!

Thanks for the responses - guess it's good that it's gas. Not so good that you guys still get it and were banded 12/7 and 11/04. I really don't like that pain - Eveyone at work is starting to immitate me and walk around with their fingers stuffed in that little hole above your collarbone.... :-) Thanks for letting me know i'm not dying... LOL. Hey BigG - Welcome to the board!

Hi, Kim! Sorry about the uncomfortable gas pain...I had it, too, and it was the worst part of the surgery. It took at least two weeks to finally escape (somehow, don't know how). I used simethicone (baby tummy drops) and Gaviscon. Try a damp, hot washcoth, like a mini-heating pad. Maybe standing under a hot shower and let it run over that spot? If I could giv eyou any ideas that would help, I would try, because I know you are miserable. You have a good attitude, and you will make it through this. (((hugs))) Cindy

Hey MouseCrazy - I'll give it a go. I just downed some Maalox to see if that would help. Off to the shower in a few minutes. Hey - I see you live semi-close to me - well at least in the Metroplex! I'm off 35 too but about 30 miles south of you in Keller. You're doing great on your weightloss so far!! Have you gotten used to your band yet? I feel like oh my gawd - what the heck have I done sometimes ---- but you know, then I stand on the scale and forget I even thought that! Stay in touch - if you need anything, I'm not that far down the road...........

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
