When will I start eating less

Recommended Posts

I sure can use everyones support! I've had one adjustment and I'm still pigging out! I did this procedure because I have no will power and need something to force me not to over eat. When does this start to work for me???

The band will never do all the work for you. You need to exercise some control over yourself and your eating habits. Buckle down and do this! You wanted it enough to have surgery - follow it up with a commitment to yourself to take good care of yourself.

You will get more restriction when you have more fills but the fact remains that the band isn't going to reach out it's hand from your stomach and keep the fork/spoon away from your mouth. The band CANNOT and will NOT "make" you stop eating less. Yes it makes you fuller quicker and when you overeat the sensation is not the most pleasant, but nothing about the band will keep you from eating. Only you control what goes in your mouth; not your band.

Self-control is key as is willpower, without it the band does you no good.

My 2 cents.

The Lap Band is simply a tool to help us all eat an adaquate portion. We however are still responsible for what we eat and how much we eat. The band is not going to stop you from overeating or eating junk food. If you are having trouble there are a few resources you can seek out to help.

1. Call the doctors office and seek guidance, perhaps they can give you another fill

2. See your nutritionist to ensure the foods you are eating are nutritious and valuable

3. See a therapist/pyschologist to investigate the reasons you overeat. Believe it or not there are reasons we all overeat even when we may not fully realize it.

4. Go to support groups and ask for help, guidance, and support

This lap band is a learning process for us all and we have to stick together for support and guidance. I wish you the best.

It took me over five months and many fills to get restriction. I bought a digital scale and measured my food out. When it's gone stop eating. Rough I know but we are not known to be good at serving sizes.

I had to wait almost 8 months to have the surgery. I spent that time retraining my brain about food. More than half of this project is mental.

I agree with comments that the band is only a tool but I'm not sure I agree that the band cannot and will not make a person eat less. If that is not the purpose of this specific tool, then what is its purpose? The band cannot make a person eat the correct foods but it certainly can make a person eat less of it. Else, why get go through all the pain and trouble of getting a band if it doesn't make you eat less and stay satisfied longer with less food?

Read about "eating around the band" and you'll understand why I said what I said. Nothing about the band makes you put the fork down, only you can. I could eat ice cream all day if I wanted. Anyone can eat past the full feeling; it's not hard, I've done it plenty, hence me saying the band cannot MAKE you stop eating; only you can. It's up to you to understand your sense of being satisfied. The band will give you that feeling, it's up to you to listen to it. I guess an extremely tight band can make one "stop" eating, but again, slider foods go down very easily and the full feeling rarely occurs with them.

You are correct. You can eat (and eat alot) around the band. I just dn't think that way since I try to eat my protiens first, etc, so the band definitely makes me full sooner and eat less than I normally would.

Just starting myself but my friend that had his done 8 months ago said. Eat Protein first and eat CHUNKY foods always between adjustments.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
