Recommended Posts

I am just days away now and I need to hear suggestions from u lapband pro's out there. What do I need to do to have the most success under the knife and a speedy recovery. I am in the OR on Tuesday and really need to will myself to test at school on Thursday. Is this completely unrealistic? Can I just work out hard the next week or something and help my recovery time move along quicker? I need all the tips and tricks out there! HELP. THANKS EVERYONE.

I am having my surgery the day after you and will be starting a new job the following Monday. I was also very nervous about not being ready to go back to work on time. I called my surgeon's office and they basically said everyone is different, but lap-band is one of the easiest in regards to recovery time. The number one suggestion was walking, walking, walking! Walk as much as possible after surgery will help with the gas and will get you feeling back to normal. I've also heard using gas-x strips and a heating pad because the gas is killer after surgery - I am very worried about that! I wish I could offer you more reassurance, but I am in the same boat you are. Good luck!!!

Well, the will pump gas into your abdomen so they can move the instruments around and see your stomach better. I can't really tell you whether it is farting or burping.. I haven't hard surgery yet. My guess is a little bit of both!!

The gas pain of which you talk about, isn't what you're thinking. It is from the gas they pump in so they can see your insides better, however, the pain afterwards is in your shoulder/back, that's where the gas goes once their done. I had my gallbladder taken out about 1.5 years ago and they said it will be just like that surgery. It's not farting/burping gas, although I'm sure we'll have that too, but the gas you refer to is in the shoulder area.

Hi! My surgery is the same date as yours! The general consensus on what I've read is that most people are pretty mobile after 5-7 days, but to expect some pretty bad pain with in the 2-4 days after the surgery. I think if you're going to school just for the test, you could possibly do it but I am not sure how well you'll do! I'd have someone lined up to drive you though because chances are it's going to be still too tender for you to drive. I don't think attending school full time again 2 days after the surgery is realistic. My doctor also told me everyone is different but he said expect the first 3 days to feel like you got kicked by the biggest horse you've seen, if that puts it into any kind of perspective for ya. Hopefully we will both wake up on day 2 feeling minimal pain! Let me know how you do surgery buddy! :)

thanks...thats interesting. I have been hearing about shoulder pain and no one has once hinted at the fact that it is from the gas. well....I am on DAY 2 of my liquid diet and just 6 days until I get banded. Im am dreaming about cheeseburgers all day long. But I hope that will pass in another day or so....HOPEFULLY.

thanks for all the good feedback.

My surgery is May 10th too..

Under a week and here we go!

I had my preop orientation Monday and they talked a lot about the shoulder pain from the gas. I had my gallbladder out two years ago and that is exactly what it felt like. Not too comfortable but it goes away pretty quickly.

I have my last supper tonight and then on the the pre op liquid diet to prep!

If you are interested in what goes on at Pre-Op orientation and what they tell you, I just put a post up about it.

Good luck all!

Reschedule the test if you can because you probably aren't going to be in the best mind to do it. Surgery generally is exhausting and puts your body in shock. I was up and walking 20 minutes after coming out of anesthetic but two days later I felt like somebody put me in a bag and beat me with a bat. If it were 5 days later I'd say no problem, but 2 days is pushing it. If the test is short and you don't really care that much about your mark, then maybe you could pop in and take it, but keep in mind you're not allowed to have a shower until three or four days after surgery...

Great advice. the day is tomorrow and I have still not heard from the facility with the final details so Im just reading lots of posts and keeping up with everyones advice on what I should be doing right now. Luckily my tests are short...probably about and hour and a half for all 3 or 4 of them total. So I plan on at least making an appearance for them. It will greatly affect my marks if I don't try. My classes move so fast I do 3 college units in three weeks so I don't have much time to recover. On a better note...thursday I will do the tests and I'll have friday , saturday and sunday off. So I just need to suffer one day is all. Thank you for everything and keep posting cause I've learned more from this site then I have from the doctor and I'm addicted to it now. Good luck every1

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
