Banded 6 days ago and concerned

Recommended Posts

Banded 6 days ago. I'm on two weeks of full liquids and have diarrhea. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to take something for it yet. I see the doctor for my one week follow up in a couple days and will talk to him about it if it continues. I hope that is normal. It makes me wonder if I'm now lactose intolerant as I have been mixing my Protein shake with skim milk. My stomach growls often heh. I hope the passing of gas will stop eventually. Have others experienced this?

Hi, I am actually on day 4 and am having the same issue. I have had it 4 times today. I have only been able to get 32 oz of Fluid down so far and 1 Protein Shake. I feel better then yesterday. The only issue is the bathroom issue.

liquids in, liquids out. Totally normal, as is the growling stomach. It'll go back to normal when you start eating solid food again.

You also might want to switch from whey Protein to soy if you are lactose intolerant.

If you are on Clear Liquids, don't expect much until you move to full liquids. That said when there is something, it will be liquid. Beware of accidents too, if you know what I mean.

Also normal- since you're not eating anything, nothing's moving down the pipes. Usually people are stuck for a few days, then VERY VERY NOT STUCK for a week or two. It passes though!

Diarrhea is not necessarily normal.

This may be as you suspect a lactose intolerance. Diarrhea without Fluid replacement (drinking more) can lead to dehydration. We don't want that.

Diarrhea may be a result of irritation from manipulation of the gut during surgery, but again it is not ideal as it may lead to dehydration.

Liquids in does NOT mean diarrhea out. Maybe more urine, and smaller and fewer normal bms--- not loose bms.

I suggest calling your doctor's office to see what he/she suggests.

Constipation can be normal after surgery because your gut will be slow from the anesthesia and the use of pain killers. Drinking extra fluids and walking helps with the constipation.

hope this helps!

I was banded a week ago and my Dr recommended milk of magnesia to help "get things moving" again. It isn't a stimulant. If you take it before bed, when you wake up you should go.

Hi ccruz. I got banded on 4-28-11. My experience was the same as yours. It had been 7 days after my surgery with still no bm and boy was it painful. My Docs nurse finally had me to take some milk of magnesia and it definetly helped. I feel like 100% better now. Just make sure you're up walking around and drinking enough and still after that nothing call your doc. I'm telling you I think I went way to long by the time I talked to nurse I was doubled over. Now I'm Kind of loose like the rest of these folks hear but compared to how I felt This is way better. Good luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
