I'm having problems with slime. Unlike what most people post about slime, it doesn't seem to happen to me because food is stuck. It always happens after the first few small well-chewed bites of food. It's like my little pouch has filled up with saliva since my last meal, and then when a bit of food goes into the pouch, it pushes all that sitting slime up into my throat and I have to throw it up. When I throw up, the food doesn't come up, only the slime, and then I can usually eat my meal after. I don't know why this happens, because I'm eating slow, chewing well, and it happens after only the first bite or two, so it's not that I'm full. If I eat something before a meal that can "soak up" the slime/saliva sitting in my otherwise empty pouch, that seems to work. But, the foods I've found that can "soak up" the slime is bad stuff like chips! Plus, I can't always eat something 15 minutes before a meal, especially if at a restaurant. Help!

Do you have allergies or post nasal drip? You may need meds .Otherwise you could try drinking a cup of warm tea or broth before you eat to help clear the built up mucus.

Slime can not sit in your pouch waiting it has a hole in it. You may have post nasal drip and not know it. Take some allergy medication and see if that works.

My band surgeon suggests liquid Benadry if you have problems with mucous.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
