Diabetic Shake Recipes

Recommended Posts

OK this is my virgin post so hopefully I do this correctly. I was scheduled for surgery on June 22nd and just got bumped to May 19th. I need to find some diabetic friendly Protein Shake recipes. I printed the list of shakes that I found on this site but I am clueless when it comes to the carbs. Honestly I am a bit nervous and think this is an out for the moment, LOL.

I don't have any recipes, but I am drinking Glucerna which is designed for people with diabetes (even though i don't have it) it's on my list that the doctor gave me and I can have 5 per day (i am on strictly liquids though). i think they are delicious.

I am diabetic, and my dietician for lap band suggested a list of Protein Shakes. I love the Protein Shakes from Premier Nutrition( I buy in bulk at Costco), they taste good!

Only 1 gram of sugar, low fat, and 30 GRAMS!!! of Protein. So, all I need is 3 a day after I get the surgery. I am drinking them now and enjoy them. My surgery is scheduled for May 27th.

Try the Muscle Milk Light. It's low in sugar, High in Protein, Medium low on Calories. But taste Good.

Check out MUSCLE MILK on ebay, and Light will also pop up.

My supplier is on there at $5.99 a jug. 2 scoops/8oz. Water is the formula.

You can put it in a blender, and add what ever you can have to it. Or plain is fine too.

Flavor is strawberry Milkshake.

I just received my May 16th addition of for women FIRST magazine and it has some great Protein Shake recipes on pages 34,35,36 and 37. I haven't tried them yet but can't wait. Just use the sugar free whey protien powders and low carb milks. Remember all recipes can be modified and who knows maybe your recipe will be better.

I like Jay Robb Protein. It's made with stevia and quite good. A little thin but it's the best I have found in my search for the perfect protein. You can get it at Whole Foods or at jayrobb.com. Don't be frightened by the dude with the ripped abs wearing an open Hawaiian shirt sporting a moustache. He's leftover from the 80s. ;)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
