regret city....what have i done?

The only bread that I absolutely love is garlic knots. Omg I love them. I only have a fill of whatever was in my band when it was placed and I can eat anything I want. Although I do try to stay away from bread when I can. Like today they brought in a hero at work. I thought about it, but was like eating all that bread is not really worth it to me, so I decided to eat the chicken I brought with me instead

I have never gotten stuck from bread. I do take care to chew well. I have made the decision to eat bread sparingly because it's high in carbs and thus calories. I can also eat rice and Pasta if I want; again I choose to eat it rarely. What has gotten stuck? Baby carrots, serveral times. I've learned I have to eat them with hummus.

Everyones journey is different, I can eat most things without any stuck episodes, the hardest thing for me, even after 6 months of being banded is eating slow. I try my best, but we all know there is nothing like taking a nice big bite of food, and that's where when I'm not thinking about it, I run into the stuck problem

We survived, and you will too! I can't eat Pasta or most bread but I am so happy to say that I mostly don't miss it! I do eat toast though. When you get to solids, if you find that you can't eat bread, try it toasted. Of course that leaves out some of the yummier kinds of breads, like french bread, but still it's something you can have. Those are the only 2 food items that I have found that I can't eat. Not so bad! I can do steak if it is very tender and I take small bites. So just take your time experimenting with things, and stay positive. The mental aspect is the biggest part of the weight loss challenge. The band helps a lot.

I think that as time goes on for you that you will be thinking the exact opposite. This is still new for you. Everyones journey is different, some lose faster than others, some have problems eating certain foods while others don't have any problems. Take it one day at a time, concentrate on being mindful of what you eat, concentrate on chewing so that u don't get those stuck episodes. Don't be afraid of the band and what bad things might happen, embrace the band as a partner and friend in this weight loss journey and all the great things it can help you accomplish...... Hang in there 

I totally understand where you are at! On my 5th day post op I sat in the shower and cried and cried... I chose the shower because that is a place that you don't eat! It took my husband 10 mins of begging to get me out, I regretted my decision to. At about a week, when I could start eating food again, I began to chipper up. Now two weeks in I can look back and laugh at myself! Part of my problem was I forgot to take my antideppresant for 5 days to. I found that looking at everyones posts really helped me get through the rough times.

Hey Brooklyn, sorry you're going through this depression right now BUT I hope it does get better. Just so you know bread and Pasta might not be a thing of the past. It really depends on the person and their band. I've been told to toast bread and eat it slowly, also pasta, I've have a few bites of it since being banded and it was fine. I try to stay away from that though because it is high in carbs and probably wouldn't help with weight loss. Good luck with everything!!!

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the anesthesia after surgery can have after side affects causing depression. It will go away, trust me. Once you start losing the weight you will get a high that will be hard to come down from. You will wish you would have done this long ago. As far as breads and other foods, each person is different. I can eat just about everything except for steak. Breads for me are fine as long as they are toasted and I do love breads, but, I purposely have it only once a week just to help with the weight loss. You'll adjust to foods that you cannot have and remember just because you cannot have something today, you may be able to at a later date. It is a very unique journey for all. Getting stuck /PB's / throwing up is very controllable unless your band is too tight. You will learn all these things as you go. Its a learning experience and you'll get there. Give yourself time.

Omg this is to funny I swear to you I kierra got done crying like a baby to my hubby! I even told him I was going to have it taken out because I have ruined my life..thank you so much for your post! I am going to try and calm down and give it a try.

OMG!! Your story sounds just like mine! I was regretful immediately after surgery (4/19/2011) and was so scared. Afterall, food has been my favorite thing to do for so long! It's 3 days post-op and I am starving! But, I am optimistic and hopeful that all will be ok. Good Luck and stay well.

I was banded in October and I have a lot of issues with doughy bread. I love bread and carbs but since those items give me a hard time, I've chosen to eliminate them and believe it or not it's not too bad.

I have been banded one year and 3 months and bread is a absolute NO NO NO for me, but you know what? After awhile, you will forget about it, and I now could care a less whether i ever eat bread again, and I was a fan of french bread, toast, home made bread...So take a deep breath...Believe me, if bread causes you to get stuck, it will look less appealing everytime you look at it.... Good luck and stay strong.....

Normal feelings... I am at 20 months and 145 pounds loss. You will find with time what you can and cannot consume a lot of, but, let's face it, everything we ate before wasn't necessaily good for us. Yes, the bad helps with portion sizes but you still have to make good meal choices. I was at my doc's office and a man there was on his 12th month. He was 10 pounds heavier than when he started. Problem? He eats nothing but milk shakes and creamed potatoes because they are easier to consume - and he could eat a higher volume.

With time, you will be able to indulge in REAL food eating small portions frequently during the day. For me, it was every two hours I put something in my pie (lol) hole. 6 times a day and three of those - unless my schedule didn't allow - was 2-4 ounces of Protein, 2 oz of starch and 2 oz of veggies. If I couldn't do that, I used a quality Protein Bar. In between, it could be a piece of fruit or even a cracker or two with cheese. Worked for me to the point that I didn't feel deprived.       I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
