Stuffy nose....surgery on 4/18

Recommended Posts

Seriously, could my timing be any worse? I think I'm getting a cold...I say think because I have a stuffy nose, but no cough, no sneezing and I don't "feel" bad so I'm hoping that the stuffy nose will disappear by Monday. I'm NOT rescheduling this surgery! If I have to reschedule it isn't going to happen until June! Anyhow, I have no fever and like I said, I don't feel bad other than this stuffy nose. I have 5 days till sugery. I'm assuming I should be okay for surgery with just a stuffy nose, if things don't get worse...what do you think?

Thanks - Staci

I had a bit of a stuffy nose the day before surgery. I bought some Afrin and used it in the morning and had no problems.

Since all you have is a stuffy nose it may be more allergy related then cold related. You may want to call your doctor and see if you can take some zyrtec or allegra for a few days to see if the symptons go away. I'm from NJ and everything is just starting to bloom and burst so it could be something irritating you that way. I would also ask if you could take some airborne in case it is going the route of a cold....maybe you can stop it in it's tracks. Good luck.............I don't wish getting sick on anyone with this. I was fine the day of surgery but noticed my throat was very dry and by the morning after surgery I wound up with full blown bronchitis and struggled really bad with not being able to drink for 24 hours and not to mention the coughing with the incisions was a whole lot of fun LOL NOT.

I agree, i think it's probably just some allergies BUT if it does get worse I would tell your doctor. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!

I had the worst cold the week before surgery, and they said it should be ok. I was feeling maybe 85% better by the time I had it. They just ran it by the anesthesiologist and my surgeon before had.

Definitely call your doctor. So at least they know.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
