10 weeks post op-FEELING YUCKY ABOUT MYSELF?

Recommended Posts

OK i know this sounds ridiculous? but here goes...

I am 10 weeks post op.. and have yet to have a fill yet... (long story, but hubby has family that works at the only fill place in town and I really don't want people to know I got lapband yet).

anyway i've lost approximately 17 lbs.. since Jan 27th.. ( my surgerydate)... and this last week.. i have been really disgusted with myself, I was really excited about 2 weeks ago because i had to buy a couple of pairs of pants that fit and then they were already starting to get loose after about 4-5 days.. but now i am really unhappy with how i look... guess cause this past weekend to a conference and had pictures taken with family and SAW HOW GROSS I AM... and this is after loosing about 35 lbs. since september...

I just wonder if ANYONE else is experiencing these same emotions or am i just being moody??

thanks for any input.

btw i am going to get a fill tomorrow (my first one)

Woah woah woah.... Give yourself a break here. You have lost 35 pounds. That would be a noticeable difference. Aren't you happy that you can say you used to weigh 35 pounds more? The GREAT news is that you have already taken a step to make the change. You've already done the surgery, recovered, started learning how to use your band. Be happy with the spot you are in now. I know it is hard to want things to move faster - to be done rather than in the middle. You ARE in the middle though. You AREN'T at the beginning. You've started your journey.

I see pictures of myself now and think "Ugh" but then I remember that exactly four months ago, I weighed 58 pounds more than I do at this moment. I am in Onederland now and you will be soon too.

I also think you should allow yourself to feel however you feel about this. I know I had some ups and downs after surgery and during recovery but I think its ok. It's amazing what came out when I didn't have food to stuff it back down. I don't know if you were/are a comfort eater or emotional eater but I know I sure was.

I have a feeling you are going to do great. Good luck with your fill. Best wishes to you!

I had the same feeling recently (I'm only a month postop though). I lost 20 pounds and was feeling pretty good about myself, but then I saw some pictures of myself at my sister in law's bridal shower and I was like "ew, I'm still gross". I just reminded myself that I didn't put this weight on overnight, and it's not going to come off overnight. I'm doing the right thing for myself now and that's what I'm going to focus on. Maybe I'll never be happy with the way I look, but my health is more important.

Congratulations on your 35 pound weight loss...that is definitely something to celebrate! You are doing awesome, so give yourself a break!

I agree with what everyone is saying! You are doing good, and you are down 35 lbs. I know the feeling, about seeing pics of yourself, and saying GROSS! But, imagine if you hadn't lost any of your weight! Take your NSV's as you can, and be proud of what you have lost. Karen

no not sagggy.... just like i am not happy with not looking thinner i guess...

guess i am frustrated that it's not coming off faster...

hubby had lapband done in april '10 and by aug he was down 85lbs.. so far he is down right at 100lb..

guess i am depressed that everyone compliments on his weight loss and here i am big as ever..

I don't think people realize what an emotional and mental challenge this whole thing is. Some days you may feel great about yourself, other days you might feel downright crappy and those two ends along with everything in the middle is absolutely normal and OK to be feeling!!! The more weight I lose the more critical I tend to be about my body. That's just part of what I'm personally going through. You'll experience a whole spectrum of ups and downs positive and negative feelings and just work through them best you can. We all have those days where we think eerwwws gross! Just know you're not alone :)

Men lose weight faster than women do most of the time so don't compare yourself to your husband. You are doing great, just give it some more time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
